I just finished building a system and I am having problems. Here is the problem.

In order to boot the computer I had to power off and on several times. Those times that it wouldn't boot up, the power was still on but nothing was happening. There was no method to booting up, it would just boot up sometimes and other times nothing.

Now it wont boot at all. Occasionally I'll see the pink (hard drive) led light up for a second, but then nothing.

I am afraid that my motherboard is shot.

My motherboard is

ASUS P5K DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

And yes, I have the latest bios upgrade.

any thoughts? thanks in advance...

Otto.

First of all we need a full list of your system components. This issue culd be either the motherboard or the PSU. If it looks like the system is too much for the PSu then we'll know its the PSU.

Nice machine. The PSU is fine.

I suspect a short - take it apart, including removing the heatsink, then reassemble it on a bit of cardboard on a desk with one hard drive and one stick of RAM. Reattach the heatsink according to the instructions.
