Computer Won't Detect SATA Drive

I'm doing a fresh install of Windows XP and the darn thing won't detect my SATA drive.

I push F6 on the startup screen. Then push S so I can select the two drivers off the floppy drive. However it goes to the "Welcome to Setup" screen, and as soon as I push the enter key to start the install it says something along the lines of:

"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer."


WTH.... What am I doing wrong?

Do you have SATA set as the first boot drive in the BIOS?

More info on your system please.

I know some older mobos could not boot from a SATA and M$ does not support SATA natively.

I do have the SATA as the first boot device. Still nothing

For the system specs I have

DFI LanParty nForce3 board

is that the only piece of information that you need? Wow, first experience with a SATA and I'm not liking it.

The thinner wires are cool tho~ Just for that all can be forgiven keke

In your bios there is a setting to turn on SATA. This must be selected as well.

Not sure if this will help, but did you try disabling RAID? Sometimes you need to change a jumper to do this.

first, what MB (motherboard) are you useing?
I had a the same problem, though everyone here have given you great suggestions.

I have the K8T Neo2-FIR K8T Neo2-FIR I tried everything but couldn't get my computer to detect my sata drive. I read the entire booklet, and called MSI. I was doing everything correctly but I missed one important step. You need to go inot your Bios at startup. once in the Bios, scroll dowm to the Imput Perfanilia, highlight it and hit enter, now you should see a small window with three choices, Raid, Sata, Serial. Scroll down and choose the Sata option, hit F10, enter and restart your machine. Now your sata drive should be found........

Once mor this largely depends on what MB you are useing............
