So, I'm on my computer for about an hour, then I go to watch tv within sight of it while its on. I know the screensaver came on. After about half an hour it just shuts off, and I don't have automatic shut down on. So thinking maybe something shut it down, I go to turn it on. It lights up and everything, but I get no post. Also, the fans usually go full when its first turned on, then spin down a bit after a few seconds. This time the fans stay at full blast. My d bracket has all four lights lit up, but I don't know what this means. I've reseated all cables and cards, but to no avail.

This system has worked without problem for several months now.

According to the manual:

4 Red = CPU is damaged or not installed properly.
4 Green = Operating System Booting

The first one, you're screwed. Second one, reformat.

Well, it is four red lights. However, I don't know how this could have happened. I haven't touched my cpu since istalling it several months ago, and so I wouldn't be at fault. I have never oc'd anything on my computer. Should I try reinstalling the cpu?

What brand and model of power supply is towing the boat here?

I have stripped it down to the very bare essentials, one stick of ram and the cpu. I still get the four red lights on the d bracket, although i did all this inside the case. I also reset the cmos.

Do you have any other decent power supplies you could use for testing, and any other video cards?

Unfortunately I don't have another power supply to use, perhaps tomorrow I can get, but not for sure. I have already tested a Radeon 9600 Pro and got the same results.

All right, I have a friend bringing his computer over tomorrow for some tests. What sort of stuff should we try? Maybe putting his cpu in my computer or vice-versa? His system has a Thermaltake Silent PurePower 420W, would it be safe to use my x800 with this, or not?

I think its pretty much down to either the motherboard or the cpu, but I'm leaning towards cpu based on the d bracket.

Thank god I didn't buy an oem processor, AMD says they will supportmy retail version for three years.

I will most likely swap it out tonight. Is there any chance that it could damage his computer?

I have never had to deal with the process of RMA'ing something before. Assuming either the cpu or motherboard is bad, what do I have to do?

MSI K8N Neo Platinum= deaded

I swapped it out, and it turns out my motherboard is bad. His 3200 has the same response as my 3400, nothing. I also swapped out for his ram, but to no avail. Fortunately my video card worked in his system, so that isnt fried. I guess I'll just RMA my motherboard. How would I go about the RMA process, I haven't done this sort of thing before.

PS. My cpu came out stuck to my heatsink, and had me worried for a bit. It worked fine in the other computer though.
