Computer won't POST

My daughter's computer just died. Its a 3 year old P4 (2.8GHz) on a Asus P4P8X SE MB. One of her case fan was squealing and I saw her lift the case and drop it on the floor from several inches before I could stop her. It quieted the fan for a few seconds, but when it started up again I decided to replace the fan to avoid a reenactment. I took the side off the case to confirm the problem, and leaned it mybe 2 degrees to the side and the power went off.

When I turn on the power supply (via the switch on the power supply) the HSF fan immediately comes on (without hitting the computer power switch), as do all drives and case fans, but no familiar "beep" or video action. The power LED on the MB seems to flickers at a very fast rate (way too fast to count). The PSU also has an LED that is flickering instead of steady on. The power and reset switches on the MB don't do anything. The IDE light also blinks fast (not as fast). The same thing happens with 2 different PSUs. I swapped the memory around, leaving each one (of the two) as the sole memory stick. I reset the CMOS. Pulled the battery. I can't think of anything else to try. I think the MB is bad, but am surprised, it is powering up the HSF.

I removed the MB from the case and powered it up without connecting anything. Same symptoms - power switch completely non-responsive. I see no burn marks to indicate anything is wrong.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I guess you have it figured out. 3 PSUs, same symptoms = bad board.

Yep, bad motherboard.

Local store checked it out and found the CPU, memory, and power supply were all okay, but the MB was toast. $95 for a new one (no charge for checking out everyting).

If you live in central VA, the folks at Unitek are great!
