Hey folks,

Hopefully someone here can give me some ideas. Before I start, here are my specs:

IP35-E with E6300 OCd to 3.0 Ghz. NVidia 8800 GTS. 2gigs memory.

When I turn on the computer, it double posts as usual, but then I hear a long beep. Computer has been stable since I built it. I've tried different configurations of the memory sticks, and have tried resetting the CMOS. All attempts have resulted in no post. Any ideas are appreciated.

Consult the mobo manual for what the beep means. Also try reseating the VGA and try a single stick of RAM at a time.

Long beep for a Phoenix BIOS also lists the keyboard and power supply as possilbe causes. Of course, we hope it's not the board. In case you haven't done so already, remember to unplug EVERYTHING when troubleshooting.

Double posting is not normal and certaily keeps the system from being considered stable. So there has been a problem with the system from the start and its now gettting worse. Chances are if its not a PSU issue then you'll probably need to replace the motherboard.

IP35-E has a known issue with double posting. It's normal for that board.

What exactly do you mean by double posting?

Push power button --> fans spin, lights on, but no one's home --> turns off on its own --> turn on again by itself --> proceed as usual (unless of course something is fucked, in which case, it beeps as mine did)

I have an Asus P5K, and when I cold boot it something along those lines happens. Everything turns on for a second, then off. 2-3 seconds later it boots. I'm at the latest BIOS, there's been 4 different BIOS revisions since I've got the board and none of them solved this issue. I think it has something to do with Intel's chipset.

I have the IP35E also and can vouch for the fact that the double post is perfectly normal and doesn't cause instability or anything else. Ran my e6400 @ 3GHz rock solid until I upgraded the whole thing to my P5Q Pro + e8400.

Do you have any other memory to test with? Unlikely that both sticks went bad simultaneously. Try clearing the BIOS again and boot with only one stick installed in a slot other than your normal spot?

I don't have any on hand, I'll be stopping by my parent's place tomorrow to pick some up. I did notice something weird though. Now that I look back at my records, I actually have 4gb of ram, not 2gb. When I looked at the task manager about a week ago, I noticed it showed only 2Gb. I haven't really had any time to do anything but study recently, so I'm pretty certain (and praying) that it might be the memory. I'm going to flip a shit if it's anything else.

Long beeps are 99% memory.

My IP35-E used to do that until a relatively recent BIOS update. FWIW my Asus P5K-VM did that too. Seems like now it only does that if power gets pulled. If it is turned off but there is still 5VSB then it doesn't double-POST.

ftp://ftp.abitshop.com/pub/bios/ip35/

For however long it lasts (I'm guessing end of month) grab your BIOS update NOW!!!

I have two Abit IP35-E's
I just tried, both will long beep with no memory installed (as is usually the case with most mobos), so yeah, look there.

Also, i used to have double post issues but latest bios fixed it on both boards.

So i'd update the bios, reseat memory and remove battery and unplug psu for 10min or so to be sure the cmos is cleared and try it again.
Of course you can use the cmos jumper to reset defaults, but since you're having issues, i personally would just remove the battery for a bit after the bios update to be sure.

Shame about Abit, they made great mobos.

So I resolved my problem for those who are curious. BOTH of my sticks were dead. RMAd them to crucial, got back a new set - work fine. Strange thing is it seems like they crapped out at almost the same exact time. I did overclock my system, but it seems strange that both sticks would crap out at the exact same time. Anyone have any thoughts about what may have happened? The sticks were a 2gb set of crucial ballistix pc6400 (BL2KIT12864AA80A.000 2-1GB 240-PIN UNBUFF DIMM 128Mx64 DDR2 PC2-6400 CL4 EPP). I'd hope to avoid any future incidences so any info would be great. MB as mentioned above is IP35-E.

Since it was at the same time then there was probably a voltage issue. Be it a surge or the voltage was set a bit too high for them.

Thanks for posting back with the resolution.
Too many times people fix their problems and dont post back which doesnt help others searching for solutions in the future.

To answer your question... Im sorry to say anything bad about a product.
But honestly , you are nowhere near the first person to have trouble with bad crucial ballistix sticks.
Crucial should test their high end memory better because the last few years, their ballistix brand of memory has really lost its credability with many users.
