Computer won't wake up from sleep/standby

This past Monday, I performed a Windows Update and it installed several security updates on my Windows 2005 MCE system. The problem is that now, my computer does not want to wake up. If I turn off the computer, I can turn it on using the power button. If I make it go into an S3 standby mode, it will succesfully go into standby but when I hit the power button to try and wake it up, it won't do anything. I have an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard. If I set the BIOS to S3 only, this is the behavior I get. If I set it to "S1 + S3", it will not go to standby because it says the eHome receiver (MCE Remote) will not allow it to go into standby. I am lost. I've tried reinstalling the AMD processor driver, chipset drivers and just about every other device driver. Any suggestions?

I have the same issue. I would love it for my MCE to work with standby. It seems to go to sleep once, but the next time it never wakes up.

Considering it's only used about 5 hours a week for recording, leaving it on 24/7 isn't particularly good for my electricity bill.

Oh ok....

shut down or hibernate

I don't even know if standby works on my computer. Never used it. My system is running 24/7 (it runs folding at home, along with about 4 other systems in this room) and the only time it gets shut down is over a weekend sometimes when I'm not around. Maybe I should try it to see if it works...

This is an old problem that has existed ever since standby was introduced. I learned years ago never to use it, and I so advise all my clients. The only thing that is really safe to let "sleep" is the monitor. But, why bother - just turn the monitor off. When Irun 24/7, I always turn the LCD monitor off when I leave the room. My advice is don't use Standby, especially when it involves your hard drive.

I have an intermittent problem with this same thing, I turned off standby, hibernate, etc in the Power Options. I think it is motherboard related, as soon as I switch the KVM swith to the other computer the original computer comes awake. I wonder if enabling legacy USB is contributing? Do not really know will try and turn it off on the MB options.

I use hibernate. Takes a lot less juice than standby mode. Works better also.

Don't standby, simple, you could just Hibernate if you need it to start up quick, but shutting down is probably smarter.
