computer wont work!!!

40gb Maxtor 7200rpm ATA/133
no lan card installed yet
no sound card installed, going to use the onbaord 5.1 sound

I am going to say its the motherboard. Here is what happened. I put it all together, and i know it is booting to at least the IDE detection screen because when i hit the power switch, it wont power down immediately. i have to hold it for 4 seconds, so i know it is at least getting past the initial bios detection. I know the video card works because i tested it in another system. I know the processor and ram works because i tested those in another system also. I know the hard drive works because i had it before. I have not connected either of the cd-roms yet because i put in all the basic components. so im left to think its the motherboard...does that sound right?

if it is the motherboard...i got it from newegg...how do i get an RMA on the board?

First off, who is your MoBo manufacturer, may want to steer clear of them. Second, go to newegg.com and click on online RMA request, or just call newegg. calling usually isn't any faster than the online thing, but if you're new to this, then you may want to speak live to a human being. Go EPoX if you can from now on, unless they're the board that you used. Never came across a bad EPoX board. Run a PC business. Reliability is crucial. Used over 1000 EPoX Boards. Good, cheap, quality.

Did you just build it and it didnt post? If so have you tried to clear the CMOS also did you double check to make sure there wasnt a setting messed up on the mobo somewhere?

yeah i cleared cmos, i checked all the settings...ive built computers before and never had a problem..but this one is making me pull my hair out


Iwill is the board manufacturer i guess....

and i want this board because it has pc2700 support plus the raid capability. i forgot to mention its an xp333-r

i built computers for 3 of my friends with it and none of them had a problem, except this one i guess

i guess ill just RMA it, and probably go epox next time...
