It's typical MS being tone deaf and all the scared paranoiacs running around with their head on fire. When your source for a lot of claims is the PC Master Race club, you should take a step back and realizing that you're quoting something that exists as a celebration of a warped world view that lets its members feel smug.

Poor little Steam. So small and weak.

The PC Master Race will crush you!!

Not that warped. I mean consoles have largely caught up but there were years I was playing 32vs32 1600x1200 battle sims with voip group chats when my console friends were playing 1v1 split screen 640x480 and claiming it was the same thing.. Now that they've caught up its fun to make fun of the master race jokesters but in all honesty it came from an actual inequality of gaming.

Looks like Ashes got another substantial update today.

http://forums.ashesofthesingularity.com/475824/page/1/

The post doesn't really do it justice; maybe this is just me, but it really looks like the graphics were overhauled. It's really a very nice looking game, especially now. Could use more polish in some areas of course - there's some "clipping" where buildings overlap the ground, and the UI scaling isn't particularly flattering, at least at 2560x1080. However, one element of this game that's very impressive is the use MSAA again after so long; Anno 2205 also brought back MSAA. Games that implement MSAA are at a different level in terms of image quality compared to those that use post-process techniques.

Gaben needs to launch HL3 exlusively for SteamOS and watch the world dominance commence from his mighty throne.

Ignoring the insane idea of arguing for exclusivity for SteamOS (Which would ENSURE I and MANY OTHERS would not buy it),

Do you even know the record of the person you're talking about that you want to have exclusivity over your gaming?

No thanks.

It still baffles me that people love any of these companies. Valve, NVidia, Intel, AMD, Microsoft, none of them care about you. They all have tons of crappy things about them that we can go at length about.

So no, we should be playing them off each other as the customer as much as possible. Not locking ourselves into one vendor for no reason than blind idiotic love.

It's still that same way... You can't do the same large scale battles on consoles the way you can on PC. It's just not possible.

In the way you put it, it is "Inequality" because there are simply game types that are unavailable to console gamers,

Is there an Xbox/PS game right now that is like FF14's MMO for example?

XCOM2 didn't even attempt to go to console. THey moved to PC only. That was a HUGE surprise to me.

Dota 2/LoL, you can't get those on console.

Console is great and convenient which is why I have at least one. But the PC is the most flexible obviously so I guess it would be the "master" in this context.

I do believe though that this update for Windows is MIcrosoft's attempt to lay the groundwork for the next Xbox. I think the next Xbox will unify the PC/Xbox experience for gaming to combat Sony on both fronts. I don't like the way they did it, but I hope that's what they're planning to do.

Fixed a friend's issue with severe artifacting on his GTX 970, which is nice.

Also after running a benchmark on DX11 and DX12 on my R9 290, the FPS gains are big and very nice, but those aren't telling the whole story. Sure I'm going from ~35 to ~45 fps overall, but on the really heavy satellite views, I'm going from ~20 to ~35 fps. That's absolutely amazing and worth probably a setting because let's face it, the lows are what we're really trying to raise more than anything. This game is making me real happy I pawned off the 970 onto my friend and grabbed my 290.

MS trying to kill PC gaming, vis a via consoles, on twitch.tv? Have to buy a console to stream, now?
IMO not exactly. MS is copying Apple's Approach to store. IMO they do not want to copy Mac App Store, but App Store. The only place where you can get applications for your platform. Both PC, and console.

Gabe Newell few years ago was talking about similar thing, after meeting with Tim Cook. After that meeting they started SteamOS, and SteamBox initiatives, if I remember correctly the events schedule, that happened.

Microsoft looks to want to lock everyone onto their ecosystem, and Sweeney has made it vocal.

End off-top.

Edit: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/...8-catastrophe-driving-valve-to-embrace-linux/ Yep, it was. At similar time there was supposed to be meeting between him and TC, that Gabe declined to be true.

It's making you happy that you get 35-45FPS in a strategy game?
With quite an expensive card mind you.

It makes me happy that I'm getting about the same framerate on a game as a friend with a notionally similar or higher value card when he's running 1920x1080 and I'm running 3440x1440. It makes me quite happy in fact when I consider how the game looks.

I usually need 120 FPS in a strategy game's beta.

This game isn't out... this early access whatever stuff is so stupid anyway but I mean the performance of this game isn't even close to done so why we debate over it is mind boggling.

The whole point is talking about DX12....

In a stress test with many units on the screen and many particle effects, lightsources etc... Yep.. Very nice performance.

Exactly,it's not the game that makes him happy as he stated but the fact that he is scoring highish in a stress test that has not much to do with gaming.

Strategy games are the last things that need 60 FPS. Nearly all the command and conquer games are capped at thirty and they play fine.

I'm enjoying the game itself; it's the first strategy game I've really been able to get into besides the classics like Red Alert 2 and Warcraft 3.

I don't think you can really categorize stragegy games that way. Afterall it really depends of the game itself. Aots is just fine when played with sub 60 fps. But Starcraft is so much higher paced game that it needs more fps. So don't oversimplify need of fps for strategy games (or any game genre in general).

So people are saying Oxide is not AMD based. Can you ask oxide that why did they not use DX12.1 features ? It is because it will gave advantage to nvidia and amd cannot use it. They simply are using things which are AMD best on and its ok because they are part of AMD mantel and gaming evolved . If they use Dx12.1 then the result will be similar like GOW and Just cause 3 on AMD.

Those are features level and Async compute is not feature level it's part of DX12 Engine and mandatory to have it.I will blame nvidia for lying about async support. They said Full support DX12 but why I see drawback?

FL12_1 is for advanced graphics effects. AoS is a outdated game with literally no graphics and a huge amount of compute processing.

Their driver said so though and that was what started all this mess. And if someone cannot handle the concept of program querying capabilities of hardware from driver then I REALLY suggest educating yourself on some computer science, preferably starting from basics.

No, the driver doesnt "said so". Oxide said so. Microsoft has not designed a way to query this information. Multi engine is logical and the application doesnt know how the driver/hardware will handle it.

It is a feature level. AMD is not focusing and do not support it and only Nvidia and Intel support it.

http://wccftech.com/dx12-3-pc-gbuffer-conservative-rasterization/

http://wccftech.com/codemasters-ego...ter-ordered-views-conservative-rasterization/.

Because AMD had a deal with them when even before DX12 did not exist. If they wanted to target or get good sales then would have use DX12 and Dx12.1 features to cover majority (more then 80%) Intel and nvidia combine.
