SKU # for the 40x Drive: 275986

SKU # for the 50 Pack of CDRs (free after $20 mail-in rebate): 277068

4-4-24 CDR/W Drive: $99.99 after a $30 mail-in rebate. SKU #: 276949

I found all of the SKU numbers at: http://www.shoppinglist.com. This site usually has most of the Sunday circular prices posted on Friday evening. This is a good thing because if I'm contemplating a purchase that I'll make on a Saturday, I can see what's coming on Sunday and determine if I need to wait a day.

Guys, the $99 CD-RW is marketed by Cendyne so I checked their web site to see if I could determine who actually manufactures it. CompUSA lists a product number as CDI CD 0056, but this unit isn't listed at http://www.cendyne.com/products/default.htm. However, the CD00017 listed there matches the 4x4x24 specs, and from the photograph it appears to be a Teac. That would be a pretty sweet deal, but someone should confirm. I have nothing but great things to say about Teac's drives. I checked their site and it doesn't appear they produced a 4x4x24 IDE, only a 4x4x32. Anyone know?

[edit] Looked around a bit more, and it doesn't appear to be a Teac, but still not sure who makes it. Noticed the package includes Nero v5, which is arguably the best mastering application currently available. [/edit]

Best regards,
Floyd

I would be willing to bet that the CompUSA flyer has one of those "limited to stock on hand" requirements for the free after rebate CD drive. The last few times CompUSA had killer deals, I was frustrated because I couldn't find the items in the store! When I asked for help, they couldn't find it either. IMHO, this is bait and switch type of garbage. I much prefer something like Staple's $20 off $50 coupons.

What you can do to pre-empt that sort of situation SimMike2, is buy the item on Saturday when it's posted here, and then go back on Sunday to get a refund of the difference.

I've done that with the CDR packs, Maxtor HDD's and my CDRW. The reps almost always roll their eyes, (One even complained that my single CDRW purchase would lead to complaints come Sunday morning.), but it's about the only way to get the deal.

Good luck,

Rab

Also noticed the JamC@m 2.5 is going to be on sale for $49 after the rebate.

True 640x480 w/usb. Doesn't seem like too bad a deal. Not sure what the 2.5 version offers over the 2.0 tho, the KB Gear website doesn't say.

That 4x4x24x cdrw for $99 after MIR looks like it might be made by Richo, looks like the 7040 ide model to me.

The cdrom is gone in 10 seconds, each store only has about 5 to 10 of them. Actually if you haven't go to compusa, don't bother nothing really left because everything has been cleared out. I just got back from there......man there was no such thing as civilization.....and I didn't get the cdrom either......sigh.....

I have had nightmare experiences with CompUsa rebates and their "store" managers. You have to call corporate CompUsa to get any results, so sad.

Good luck all

dragingmyfeet: thanks for the "heads up" on this deal. I was the 3rd person through the door at the compUSA in Burbank this morning and the 1st one to grab a 40x CD-ROM. I also snagged one of the spindles of Kodak CDR's. I found CU-SeeMe Pro with a $20 rebate on it and picked up a copy for the heck of it.

Like others said, there was very limited quantities of the "free-after-rebate items. I got what I was after and actually managed to get to the register before the fur really started to fly!

monster750: All rebate forms were available there in the store.

Just visited my local CompUSA at 2:30 pm Sunday afternoon. After reading this thread I figured it would turn out to be a waste of my time. But, they still had about 10 or so of the 40x CD-ROM drives on the shelf and about 12 paks of the Kodak 50 count CD-R spindles. Sometimes it pays to live in a smaller town.

Wow you had 10 left at your CompUSA??? They laughed at me when i asked if they had any left at 4 today. I did manage to pick up on some of those 50 packs of Kodak cdrs, they're pretty sweet, the tops are blank too, but i wouldn't call them "spindle", it's basically a plastic cover on the top and bottom with the cardboard label wrapped around the CDs, no plastic part running up the middle of the CDs either. Oh well, they're still great blank CDs

OH YEAH, THE REBATE!

does anyone have a clear rebate I can print out?? they gave me super $hitty photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy that I can't read at all
