Hi,

Not sure if this belongs here or in software, I think, here.

I dumped AMD CCC.......hated it.

I got MSI Afterburner which appears more viable.

Raised my GPU fan speed, this made a big difference, but truth is, I don't know how to configure the other settings. I put some sliders at the middle, but with no informed purpose.:|

I in no way wanna overclock anything.

Any input will be much appreciated!

if you dont want to adjust something then leave it alone...

click reset and only adjust your fan if thats all you need.

I am in no way adverse to adjusting any part of this; I simply don't know what to adjust or why.

Let me do this another way: with the premise I want to run everything at factory settings.....what do I do?

In your case, your card seem to be voltage locked. So there is no danger of damaging the card. You can raise the memory or core clock a little if you want but I wouldn't see any use with such a card.

The only slider you need to adjust if you want to control the fan is obviously the Fan (%) slider. (You can also modify the fan curve in the settings of MSI afterburner in the fan tab.

If you want to put everything back to stock such as the fan speed and/or clocks, you just need to press the "Reset" button at the bottom.

FORMIDABLE! Re above, we have a winnah! Thanks so much.

I would highly advise to make a fan profile in fan tab , much better than moving slider with static rpm.
leave auto setting and make a curve up in the fan graph with points .

Hi! I so appreciate the additional input, cause atypically, this app is confusing me re its features.

does below look OK?

And, a real confusion for me: why are the factory defaults re both clock speeds so high? Is that normal?

FYI, there's a new stable version of Afterburner that was released about a week ago. It was in beta for AGES:

Thanks!! I got it yesterday, I first had an earlier build starting with a 2.

I wanted so chose this chip, the best for this socket...knowing for me, the only downside of Lynnfield i7 870 is the need for a discreet card altogether. Can't have everything.

Yes, fan graph looks ok , but i never had AMD card so I don't know what is needed or what is high that might cause sound issues being to loud .
Why I said use fan tab it allows you to very easy make a fan profile to your cooling needs .
Leave it like it is in pic , if you need more static cooling (idle temps ) you raise the first point up so min%is higher than 40 , and if you need fans to ramp up more to lower temps under load just raise the others depending on were your max temps are .
I generally raise it pretty much like you have now but my card is different .
What you have looks like good base to start off .

On clock speeds, if you hit reset that should give stock clocks for both core and memory .
I would have to look it up for that card .
Edit: just checked 600mhz for core and 800 for memory is stock for 4550 .

Excellent, thank you....and for knowing as much as you do and helping.

See, thing is, those two clock speed in the screenie are what they are after I hit reset! Hard to believe those are factory defaults, but, now that I've raised the fan speed, the card is running at temps that make me feel better.

Edit: just checked 600mhz for core and 800 for memory is stock for 4550

Bless you for checking those! I felt better the second I read it. Those are, in fact, the factory defaults! I guess, cause the card is so modest, but modest also means it draws minimal power.

Very good app! And FREE!

Thanks again!

Glad you got it working ok .
As I say , you can easy tweak the fan profile to get results you want .

Just make sure you set it to start at windows startup (that setting is in first general tab) .

MSI AB is the best IMO when comes to graphic utility .

Yes, did that one right off.

OMG! In a whole other class than the bloated and disgusting AMD CCC!!! It's a truly brilliant app! And, does not discriminate, works with Nvidia too!!!
