120 bucks out the door for a 802 setup. awesome.

So why is the D-link one trash compared to the Orinco? I was able to get the dlink working fine in XP with the WEP enabled. Can anyone tell give me details?

Ziptar, The Orinco Card has 100mW output and it is a lot easier to find a dongel for a better antenna.

TigerDirect has an SMC 802.11a access point and card for 159...not a router but a great addon for an exitsing network!

YMMV with TigerDirect...

I walked in with a print out and the manager looked up the SKU's and none were in stock but he said he could transfer them in from other stores around the Metroplex and I could pick it up friday, today being monday.

Total was ~$118 for the router and 2 USB cards.

Looks like all of their Compaq networking stuff is on sale / discontinued. I have a feeling this has something to do with the HP merger. I heard from a Compaq employee that eventually they will just be HP.

Anyhow great deal. I walked out with a 5 port switch and PCMCIA 802.11b (D-Link rebadge) for $50! Thanks for the heads up!

I was at Best Buy looking for DVDs.

And I saw the Compaq CP-1W, on clearance for $180, that has very intresting PM opprotunities. $37 ish + tax if you get a 110% PM.

I just picked up the CP-2E e/net 4-port router for $29.99. As for the CP-1W, the RS guy searched many stores in the region and found only one store that had two left. Stopped in at Best Buy and noticed the CP-1W on clearance (as someone stated earlier too) for $179.50 - and they had plenty of them sitting there. I asked the BB person if they would price match, he said to bring in anything in writing from RS that states this price and he would do it( = YMMV I guess.)

I haven't done this PM stuff much yet, but going to tomorrow to see what Radio Shack will print out for me. This maybe a non-issue if I can get one from that store with two left tomorrow.

Nope - used both the orinoco and the D-Link with Win2K as well as WinXP. I would advise though to obtain the latest drivers.

I just bought one of 2 remaining at one of the hundreds of Radio Shacks in NYC. This deal is pretty sweet. I haven't set it up yet but tonight I will. I can't wait to get this thing working.
