I got the usb one for my dad (built his first computer) from livewarehouse. It came in 2 days with priority mail shipping. Works nice. It had a problem where it showed in windows xp that the wireless connection was not available (even though it worked), so I updated to new drivers and it shows now. Good job Compaq.

anyone know whats up with this thing not forwarding all ports when you are the DMZ??

Before, I had a linksys and could use citrix to get into my work and check my email and create invoices

Now, with the compaq, i keep getting an error message that the citrix server is not available, or "Network or Dial-up options are preventing communication with the citrix server"

tried it on all 3 computers in the house, none of them will connect... i assume i will be able to connect fine if i were to plug the cable that goes from modem to router into my computer... this bites!

you can dedicate 1 ip address to dmz. it should work like other wifi. i had cp-2w and usb. it also work flawlessly with netgear usb, belkin usb wireless. the easiest usb wireless to setup is belkin, ipaq come in second in ease of installation and setup. you may need to download new util and drivers from company website to make it works under winxp. WEP setup also easy. you can enter a text phase instead of serial of hex number.

I don't get it... I have the Wireless USB one, and it simply WOULD NOT detect my wifi router if I upgrade to the "latest" drivers for winxp(1.2.2.10 or something like that)... but it works flawlessly if I use the version on the CD (1.0.0.0)... oh well, at least for 26 bucks, its all good... BTW, the stupid antenna broke on the HNW-200 while in transit(its for my laptop, obviously)... I wonder if I could get warranty support from HP...

Just got the CP2W and two Compac USB adapters last night for Radio Shack (thanks for the deal). Can someone please tell me why (in XP Home) the system tray shows an X through the double monitor icon? It states Wireless Network Connection, Wireless network connection is unavailable yet it works fine. It's setup as a Internet router + Wireless Access Point for my cable modem (DHCP). Thanks!

Please reference my above post.
Doh, I now know why the system tray Wireless icon is X'ed out it's because the networking between my two computers isn't working. Installed it late last night and didn't have time to fully check it out. Internet access to my cable modem from both computer works fine though. I have it set up exactly as I had previously with my Netgear wired router but still unable to communicate between the two machines. Running XP Home here. Any help clearing this up would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well I still haven't figured out how to get rid of that X'ed out icon in the system tray for the Wireless Network Connection, but other than that I have everything working. The only thing I can think of is that the icon relates to the 4 wired ports on the CP-2W which I'm not utilizing except for the internet port. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

did you look in msconfig to try and uncheck it? btw, what does the icon look like? if its network related go into the network properties and look for a box you can uncheck. you may have to look in control panel to find a similar icon. lastly, try to right or left click the icon or just put the pointer on teh icon and see what the name of it is - then do a search for that name or part of the name with * at the end of the name. if you find the folder its in click on it and see if you get some type of control panel for it where you can change settings. good luck - i don't know why but i can't stand to have a bunch of crap in the system tray.

Well, I've still can't figure out how to get the icon (double monitors with red X though them out of my system tray! When I touch the icon it says Wireless Network Connection (Wireless connection is unavailable). If I click on it , it brings up the Connect To Wireless Network window but it's all grayed out so the only thing I can click on is cancel. As I've stated previously, otherwise everything seems to be functioning fine. Does anyone know if this X'ed out icon has to do with the wired ports on the CP-2W (nothing is attached to these only my cable modem to the internet port). To recap, I'm running the Compaq CP-2W, SSID, with Wep enabled and both my desktop PC's are using the Compaq iPAQ 11Mbps Wireless USB adapters. These are setup with the same SSID as well as the same Wep key. Anyone have any ideas or do I just have to live with this X'ed out icon residing in the system tray? Appreciate any enlightenment on this issue! Thanks!

Problem solved! I located SP19557 for XP and it fixed the X'ed out icon issue in the system tray.

It's an ok router so far, it has crashed twice on me in 2+ months

Mine's crashed on me three times in about 2.5 months.

The first two times the "Test" light came on and the whole thing was locked out. I couldn't even telnet into the router from a wired PC.

The third time, I was just merrily computing along when I started getting frame errors. Then it stopped working.

In all three cases, the only way to unlock it was to unplug the thing and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then plug it in and it works again.

I have the latest firmware, so maybe this unit is just flaky.

By the way, I am not using it as a router, only as an access point.
