Yeah, went to a Radio Shack today, had at least one more wireless PCMCIA card, price was only $25 instead of $30.

I couldn't get the hnw-100 to work with either my ipaq pda or my hp ze4000. In Windows XP I get the error message that it can't start the card?? I'm still within 30 days of purchase so it's going back to the store.

Did you download the correct drivers. I got it to work on my ZE4100, no problems at all.

Didn't try it on my Jornada, but let me link you to the drivers for your ZE4000.

It's better to use the Win2k drivers cause my roommate couldn't get it to work on his laptop with the XP drivers.

Go here, and then change the third box to notebook networking card, and then select the hnw-100, and get the Win2k drivers (or you can try the XP ones too).

I finally started using my Compaq wireless PC card; I had to wait for my Compaq 910us laptop to get here. Tried it last night and it works flawlessly, good signal from the AP to the farthest point in the house. I had tried to find the Orinoco branded card because everyone was saying that the others? were D-Links and had a terrible time sustaining a signal, but it?s a good card with excellent reception. And all this for just $29.97 plus tax and no rebates.

I got the cp-2w hooked up. It works fine on my login to Windows XP, but on my wife and sons login I cant get an internet connection. When I bring up the internet explorer it gives me the connect popup, trying to connect to the dsl modem the old way. I havent hooked up my sons pc to the network yet. I downloaded the newest firmware update also. Im sure its just a setting somewhere.

Any help appreciated

If the thing has a uplink and a WAN port make sure you are using WAN. There may be a setting similar to what the ports do. What happens sometimes with routers is the modem can see the computers directly and links with one of them rather than a router.

I have this same problem too with my Compaq Armada M300. I can't get the darn thing to work. I talked to Compaq for hours and they couldn't help me. I'm thinking of returning it too.

I bought this at the begining of this thread and it is working fine with my IPAQ 3835, IBM transnote (laptop) and the sb is working fine with a XP system, all with the provided drivers, in the cas eof the pda I had to search for the drivers (I would've thought that since they are both Compaq products, they would work instantly)
The site for the pda drivers are Here just follow the instructions and you are set.

Bump for updated firmware for the CP-2W (been using mine for 9 months). Not much difference from the 2.03 firmware but apparently they added some IPsec support for the security nuts out there.

I haven't updated my unit yet.

what type of wireless card do you have for your IPAQ? is it is PCMCIA one with and adaptor or a Wireless CF card?

I got the last 2 routers from Radio Shack in New Brunswick. The old firware bites!! But once you dump the new firmware in, the thing is on par with the Linksys router. So far i'm impressed. I won't get a chance to test out the wireless till tommorow. Great DEAL!!!

Thanks for pointing out the newer firmware.

I've been using this router for over a month and I'm very happy with it. The user interface is great, it's easy to configure, and it works. Just as good as any other piece of networking hardware I've used. Cudos to Compaq for making a good piece of hardware.

I was in till I saw that the shipping via ups ground to VA was $14.31...seems somewhat excessive...:disgust:

I've been using my CP-2W for several weeks and it's great.

Stupid question: how do you set the date on this thing? When I go to the management page (new firmware) it tells me the date is not set.

If it matters, I am using it as an access point.

I suppose it sets the time from your ISP's server. I just set the Daylight Saving's Time offset and it works fine.

How do I get the to event log? It seems with the newer firmwares I can't see a report anymore. Just a single page, but no events.
