Confirmed: McGrady traded to Houston

The trade also includes Juwan Howard to Houston, while Orlando will get Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato in return. Of those five players, McGrady and Francis are protected and cannot be drafted by the Bobcats. If Charlotte passes on Howard, Mobley and Cato, then the deal is done, Gray reports.

Orlando got screwed, but basically Houston was the only team that T-Mac would agree to sign a long-term deal with apparently. They basically had to trade him to where he wanted to go, lest they lose him for nothing.

hmm...this whole shaq thing is looking more unplausible by the day. Teams are realizing that in order to acquire Shaq they are basically going to have to give up huge chunks of their roster, and not just average players, good players. They also realize that Shaq isn't necesarrily getting better, he's getting older, so to acquire him would not be a great long term move. I still have faith that he will retain his Laker status, as long as his temper subsides.

Only teams that are willing to pay the luxury tax will get Shaq (if he is traded). Dallas (Mark Cuban's $$), Portland (Paul Allen $$) comes to mind....

Shaq could re-do his deal, but that won't happen.

I wouldn't trade Dirk for Shaq. Dirk has too much upside and is 5 years younger. Shaq is only going to deteriorate AND eat up all your cap room.

and there is no way shaq stays in the west if LA can help it. good likelihood of going to the nets, i think, especially since the nets are moving to brooklyn, iirc.

Its not going to happen. Cuban isnt going to trade Dirk. Hes already said Dirk is "as untouchable as they get". Dallas would have to do away with Dallas. They'd have to tade the whole team to get Shaq, its just not worth it. Maybe if LA would take Fortson, Daniels, Howard, Jamison, and Walker. Or trade Howards to the Cavs for the #10 pick like they were planning, then give LA Fortson, Daniels, Jamison, Walker, and the #10 pick. LA wont do that, so Shaq going to Dallas is as likely as him going to Orlando.

Id love to see Steve, Dirk, Finely and Shaq on the same court. Its just not going to happen. Dallas will unloaded walker, and likely Jamison in the off season, but they wont be getting Shaq.
