Without him, who knows what state the PC would be in. Or even if there was a PC.

Today we have lost a Visionary and a Pioneer who has changed the world in one Lifetime.

RIP

sad news, never like to see someone go like that. RIP Steve

I may have disagreed with alot of his practices at Apple, but he was a stubborn visionary and it carried Apple to new hieghts of success. As a side effect, he spurred the rest of the industry into action through competition and that has resulted in better products for everyone whether its from apple, google, ms, or a host of other competitors.

He was part of that shrinking group of leaders in the tech industry that started out with nothing in a garage and was able to build an empire that could impact the entire market it was in (Bill Gates is now one of the few remaining people in that category).

Ill certainly miss the chance to hear his grand speaches as he extoled the virtues of the next great idevice. He knew how to put on a good show, something your not likely to see from most companies for a while, those kinds of people dont come around very often.

More like a half lifetime. Just imagine if we had him for another 30 years.

RIP Steve. Thank you for your innovations and "magical" toys

I never realized that he bought Pixar before Toy Story and we can evidently thank him for it's amazing success. I adore everything by Pixar.

The responses here are much classier than some other tec[H] forums I've read out there.

Whether you like the man for what he did or didn't do, he impacted the world tremendiously.

RIP.

That was crass and rude. Have some respect for the dead.

I used to hate Apple and Steve Jobs - and then work provided my an iPhone about 3 years ago. Wow! A phone where you could actually use the internet! I was an instant fan. For me, it had nothing to do with marketing - it was just a well designed product. Very sad to hear about him passing.

An innovator, but a complete prick.

The thing is, you don't get to be where he was by being nice. He operated on a different plane of existence than regular people. When you can "see" 30 years into the future wouldn't you be frustrated by dealing with people who couldn't?

Imagine you worked on a team of individuals who were the very brightest that society had to offer. Now imagine that compared to you, they were so far beneath you and behind you in thought that they just couldn't imagine what you were talking about.

Steve Jobs = Genius. I may not have agreed with all the decisions made by him and Apple, but we can all see his footprint on our technological lives. He will be missed by both those who loved him and those who despised him. Apple will be much less relavent with him gone.

RIP

RIP, he was a great leader and had good marketing flair.

It's just a little weird to see the media and many people idolize him as if he invented everything in the tech sector and we'd still be using a pen and paper if he hadn't been there.

Why does one have to invent something to get credit for being great?

Great painters did not invent painting. Great architects did not invent architecture. Great baseball players did not invent baseball.

They took existing thing and made them better than anyone before them ever has and, perhaps, better than anyone who follows them ever will.

Under Steve Jobs, Apple took things or ideas that existed and turned them into must-have items like no one has ever done before.

Jobs was the Picasso, Frank Lloyd Wright and Babe Ruth of the tech industry. It is like someone would say, "Ruth was a great hitter, but he did not invent the home run, so why all the fuss?"
