Dudes don't like romance novels because there are no PICTURES.
wth is this crap?!
When was there a game that does that with the opposite? Only thing that comes to mind is Mass EffectI guess a good analogy to help you guys understand...

The guy is flipping wacko, plus he could have cleaned his camera during the interview.
You broke it, imgur is case sensitive.
But yes a good number of them come from filthy rich families. Even quinn is supposedly from a wealthy family, her name is fake and not the first so tracking her history down is complicated.
Anyways part of this seems to stem from a strange culture born of children of privilege who failed to become something useful like their parents, and so instead just find a way to cause trouble using wealth and connections and general shamelessness.
To not know that bragging about 200k wasted on her by her parents in a down economy was a bad move just tells you how disconnected these people are from reality.

But isn't that the point. Are we assuming that it has been taken lightly? Whether its for shock reasons or it's because they felt it was an important portion of their story I would assume the other way, that these 200 million dollar productions have been created with thousands of people overlooking it and that those types of scenes were not glossed over.Yes, but no one would do it without a lot of thought and consideration. It is not to be taken lightly, even if it is done in humor.
I personally don't care if its "legal" or just damning it till people get shamed for buying a game that can have misogynistic content. I would never tell an artist never to paint something. A writer to never write something. A director never to direct something. Or a game developer to never include something in its story. I have the ability to influence somethings through my purchase habits but that where it ends. Here is where you and I will agree. I would not support any sort of legal ban. I haven't followed the whole Feminisim vs tropes thing to closely, but I was not under the impression that they were looking for legal bans. If I am wrong about that I'll change my mind fast.
Depends on how you look at it. I am not disagreeing with you. But its death was long before civil rights and without much hatred for them.It was always offensive to those that it lampooned, and it disappeared as society changed to value those people.
Probably to some degree and some just the habit of not understanding of certain people and so their attempts to show them become parodies. Like the "Asian" from Breakfast at Tiffinanies. It comes out much more racist then they probably meant it to because that what the actor saw whenever he dealt with Asian people. It was always a form of schadenfreude, humor at the expense of a group of people that had no way to defend themselves (socially that is). It was always racists. Always a method to keep society firmly focused on a Us vs Them mentality. But I don't really want this to devolve into a historical discussion, as fascinating as I find the subject, especially since I think we mostly agree on this subject.
I believe that her position should be seen as a starting position of a negotiation. I see her position as an exaggeration of what is reasonable, a pendulum that has swung too far in counterbalance to the status quo. If most of us are able to remain rational we will find a happy medium. That is why the whole gamergate thing is disturbing, it is such a massive over reaction that it causes it hard to maintain rationality on either side. Instead of looking for common ground to compromise both sides are building rhetorical trenches in preparation for an extended siege.
I don't think we need legal censorship, I think we need social pressure. I think that they have every right to tell producers not to make certain stories, and I feel that game producers have every right to fully ignore them.
I think what is really important is that society talk about this stuff a lot. I think that we need to continue to point it out and make both those making the content and those consuming the content to take ownership of the content, and decide if it is something they can be proud of or not. I think it needs to come from both sides, Gamers need to continue to point out the good stories, inspired art, the supportive communities, and how they bring together formerly disenfranchised people and empower them to create something new. We need to make sure that we talk about the good as well as the bad. I think we need to create things that we can be proud of, and encourage it when we see it.
But that goes on in horror movies or most comedies as well. Kind of like that commercial where the group hides behind the chainsaws. It's sloppy writing and tends to over use women for the roles. But you can't suggest cutting out those types of scenes. They can be vital to a story and I don't think they should be just limited to males. That ruins the ability for people to tell the tale they want to tell. Challange writers to decide if a female is right for the scene or could it work just as well with a male. But don't tell they shouldn't or can't use a women in a given scene.I know a lot of female gamers, and most of them play those games. Every time we talk about this they of course bring up the boobs (and the high heels, they complain alot about how real women take the heels off as soon as the action starts), but they talk about other things that they don't like as well. They talk about how simperingly useless women are most games, how if you watch you will notice that there is about a hundered things that most of these helpless princesses could do to improve their situation (or avoid it to beging with) but they never do any of those things, because they are women and the woman is not supposed to win. Even if it is not true it is how the women that are identifying with those damsels feel. I think it is because the people writing the stories never stopped to consider that anyone would ever identify with the distressed damsel instead of the hero that we know will rescue her.
I think you have misunderstood. They don't mind the sex scene, they enjoy it as much as you do. (have you ever read a romance novel? The word romance is just a euphemism for porn.) They mind that the woman, the character THEY identify with, is simply treated as an object. (Interestingly enough romance novels do this to the male characters, and it the main reason that guys do to not like them. It makes for an interesting comparison. It is a conversation society might should have as well, but one thing at a time.)
I don't like man butt. We have ugly buts, sometimes hairy, outside 2-3 I have seen (Vigo, Jackman, and the Swayze) they are generally saggy and unshapely. It's the one "sex" related thing that I detest and cringe about because usually it's just all of a sudden bam, man butt. That said I have never felt alienated or pushed away by any movie that gave me man butt.I guess a good analogy to help you guys understand...

In every game, sure it would. But it's not in every game, the same way it's not every game that has the content Sarkeesian claims is 'bad'. Don't like it, don't buy it and don't play it.
Anyone can feel free to seek financial backing or put up their own to create the content they feel is a void needing filling. Then if there is a market for it, it will be profitable and we'll see more of it.
I think your analogy perfectly highlights a part of Sarkeesian's broken logic; that her verdict is all encompassing across all games ever.
It's in most every game though, as she points out time and time again. It's a pattern.
There is a rich history of criticism of film and literature. People don't say, "direct your own film" or "write your own book" before criticizing. Very very few people are capable of making games. YOu have to be very very talented and very very lucky to get into a position where you can make games.
That she so assiduously avoids them, disables comments, cannot/will not respond to video and other responses, and seems to hide behind the unfortunate but small layer of vitriolic hate messages as an excuse to avoid addressing real comments about her statements does little to lend her much credibility outside of those already with their mind made up.
I'm not going to defend Sarkeesian, and I agree with most of what you said, but let's not toss out "disables comments" on YouTube videos like that's some form of elitist censorship. Have you read YouTube comments? They're universally terrible. Everyone should disable them.
Or maybe you can turn it around.
Imagine the average guy reading 50 shades of grey.
Boring as sin, just how many pages of that book should we turn into pictures for this fictional projected male audience regardless of the concerns of the actual consumers of that content which are predominantly female.
And lets not kid ourselves, no amount of changing that book would make it appeal to men.
There is a false premise at work here where people assume women even play these games in large numbers so that its an issue in the first place.

As proved by video evidence, the biggest complainer on this issue doesn't even have genuine interest herself.
Women instead dominate the demographics for games like candy crush...no gay sex possible. No characters at all...
Beyond that its overblown. How many games actually feature sex or even sexiness. I mean unless someone has the hots for princess peach, there is no sex in most games at all. How much "creeping" goes on in minecraft? This really is an issue of hysteria created by people who have zero genuine interest in the issue, and are just opportunists.

I'm sure PC mags back then called their userbase "dead" and ISIS.hell this has been going on since computer mags started.
You read the greatest review of a piece of hardware or software and its right next to a 2 page color ad for it.
NO ONE doing any review in paper or on that there internet is paid to do it.
NOT ME I went out and spent $2000 to buy that piece of hardware or spent 40 hours playing that game just to tell my followers how good it is.
BS
see that $500,000 add thats on the front page and will be there for the next 2 years, and that BOX of free video cards or games.
That has nothing to do with a 12 out of 10 review we just completed.
weather its a game or a piece of hardware there is money in that review.
THERE IS NOTHING that has to do with ethics or journalistic integrity when they are dealing with money.
Is it really I bet I could come up with 10 games that don't for every one game you list that does. It's in most every game though, as she points out time and time again. It's a pattern.
