Confused about ASUS A8N-E and Corsair ValueSelect

Has anybody been able to use the Corsair Valueselect 1GB (2X512) memory in a dual channel mode with the Asus A8N-E? I ordered this MB together with AMD 3200 Venice but according to Asus site I will not be able to run the Corsair Valueselect in dual channel with 2X512. In order to run the memory in dual channel I will have to get another 2x512 for a total of 2 GB. My question is should I return the Valueselect and get something else or should I just buy another 1 GB of Corsair Valueselect. I plan to do some overclock so what memory do you recommend for this MB.

Well this isn't good because I just ordered the same combo. I thought the value select worked with everything.

Not true. Somebody just built a rig here using 2x512 Corsair XMS with 3700+ San Diego. Check their website, there is a new bios(1003) that will fix this. Somebody even used 1 mem stick to boot and update the bios to 1003 and then installed the next 512 which makes it 2x512. I'm going to order thismobo today and San Diego and 2x512 Corsair or even 2x512 Mushkin. About the A8N-E Spec. summary on memory, it's just stating that you can use UP TO 4 184 pin memory sticks.

I think moabb is specifically talking about the VS1GBKIT400, which isn't XMS. In the A8N-E manual (which can be found at http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A8N-E&Type=All), the A8N-E / Value Select 512MB combo "supports four modules inserted into the blue and black slots as two pairs of dual-channel memory configuration", but does not "support one pair of modules inserted into either the blue slots or the black slots as one pair of dual-channel memory configuration."

If you go to the official Corsair Support forum (http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=128) and search for "A8N-E", there seems to be a number of people who have had problems using the VS1GBKIT400 with their A8N-E. I'm not sure if this supposed incompatibility is real or not, but I hope not, since I'm planning on using the VS1GBKIT400 with an A8N-E. I hope I don't have to buy four of those 512MB modules to run dual-channel...

Thanks LarryH for making more sense then what I am trying to say. I just received my mb and cpu and now I am not sure if I even want to start putting everything together yet. I think I'll call Newegg and see if I can return the ValueSelect and get something else. The only problem is that I bought the Corsair 2 months ago but hopefully they will let me exchange it for something else.

EDIT: I recommend the XMS or some other memory it seems that there is some ongoing problems with the value select line and Asus boards. The XMS works great though.

Thanks NightCrawler I will give that a try. I just spoke to a really helpful Newegg's rep. He said that I will need to order and pay for the new memory then send back the one that I bought over 2 months ago and he will refund the original purchase. What a great company to deal with!

I read the Corsair support forum that was posted by LarryH and it seems that the latest bio does not help to resolve the problems the people were experiencing. Anybody cares to suggest some good memory for this mb?

I'm thinking about getting two 512MB Crucial sticks or the Corsair TwinX-3200C2 1GB kit. The only thing about Crucial is that they don't seem to mention anything about "matched" memory.

The fact that it supports 4 modules is probably at DDR333 and not at DDR400. It also seems Asus released a bios update to try and fix the problem but some people are reporting that it didn't fix the problem.

I wonder if Venice core has any impact on the problem.

Anybody have any more information on this? I would consider getting getting 4 sticks of the value if I knew it would run at full speed (400). @160 its not too much more than 1gb of its competition

Thanks for the recommendation NC but I'm not much of a Geil fan. Had a problem with their cs once and it was bad enough for me not to want to go back. Where is the list that has the updated qualified memories? The one in the asus manual is from January and Im sure they've added more support since then.

Maybe buy the Epox mobo instead it even has firewire and is a little bit cheaper and corsair value select seems to work fine on it.

I was able to run the A8N-E with 2 dimms of the corsair value select memory (2x512) in dual channel mode with no problems.

How? Everyone else seems to be having a problem with it. Are you sure your running dual channel and not just 1g standard? I believe the board allows the full 1g to be run if its not in dual channel.

Don't have any problems with my Corsair ValueSelects with the A8N-SLI Deluxe. SpeedFan sees it as Dual Channel.

Though I guess it doesn't apply to you since you got a different mobo and a Venice instead of a Winchester core, like the one I have.
