I finally got my a8n-e to post, I had to throw some generic ram into it, to get past the long beeps.. I will update the bios to 1003, and put my VS back in, hopefully it should work, if not I am going to get some different ram.. planning to do this all tonight..

alright updated to 1003 bios, and it still won't post, so I am thinking of just getting something else and seeing if I can return the VS to newegg.. I really don't like the idea of running a beta bios, this is such a pain in the ass, I am looking at the manual and it says it works, but I can't get it to.. Any other suggestions???

It will work with 1 stick but not in dual channel. My thought on the beta bios was that they may have added support for the VS in dual.

Piece of Sh*t, still won't post even with the beta bios, 1004.3, I have had enough of this and I am going to buy a different kind of ram..

I'm using the 1003 bios and it posts fine with 2x512 corsair value select. It also posted fine with 1001 bios. it is in dual channel mode for sure and passes all memtest86+ tests.

Wasn't Venice supposed to handle DDR400 with 4x512MB sticks? Or was that San Diego?

Alright, I updated to the lastest bios, 1004.02, and couldn't get any results. Called my buddy who ran them in his build, and one of my sticks (512 x2) was bad, so thats why it wasn't working, right now I am running 1 512, so it was bad ram not the bios, as far as 1004.02 was concerned..

Will get a new set this week and try again.

Mine is running 2 sticks of value select in dual channel without any problems, it booted just fine with the 1001 bios and also with 1003.

I just finished testing my A8N-E and 3700+ San Diego, the memory sticks I got was fine. System was able to identify that it was 1Gb PDP DDR 400 PC3200. But the problem was updating the bios. I was able to load the award flash but when typing the 1003.bin bios, it's telling me "file not found". I don't know if there is a problem with unzipping it or decrypting it. If it was already unzipped, do we need to decrypt the file?
I only have one computer, so as soon as I got the message, I have to uninstall it all again and install my old mobo and etc.

No need to decrypt it, it depends where the file is located. If it's on the C drive then make sure it is C:\1003.bin and that your path in the flash app is right.

i was able to load the awdflash but when typing the 1003.bin, it's telling me that file was not found. it won't even let me send to the floppy without decrypting it. After i download the bios, i extract it and when i right click it to send to the floppy it gives me a message to decrypt it first before it can be sent to the floppy. I download the awdflash together with the 1003.bin.BIN on the same floppy disk. When I transfer it to the floppy the is the name of the file showed during transferring "1003.bin.BIN". Do I need to rename it as 1003 so that when it is transferred to the floppy it will be "1003.BIN" and that's what I'll type during bios update?

birdpup gave me a hint so I got it? I wil try it again tomorrow. Got two finger cuts just installing the mobo. So far CPU is working and I used paint thinner to remove the thermal pad from heatsink and then cleaned it with 91% isopropyl for finishing touch. Was tempted to use gasoline(premium) and then 91% isopropyl for last touch.

Put everything together this weekend and I am up and running. I just updated to the latest Bio (1004). Now how do I check to see if the MB is identifying the CPU correctly? I am running 3200 Venice. Also, how do I check whether or not the Corair XMS that I installed is running in dual channel? How long should I wait before starting overclocking this rig?

I built my A64 3500+ back in January 2005 using the NF4 ASUS mobo and its earliest 1001 BIOS with 2X Corsair Value Select 512MB RAMs.

These RAMs were inserted into the 2 blue slots, and oila, my system's working in dual channel.
