Hi,

With all the new cards I can't keep up anymore. Which is the best card: the Radeon 9800 SE, 9600 Pro or 9600 XT?!.

Anybody can give the order from best to worse of these cards with some comment and how much difference there is between them. Also, how do they compare to the 9800 non-pro and 9700 pro, who both had 8 pixel pipelines, but unfortunately both aren't available anymore and the 9800 pro is too expensive for me?

Thanks in advance!

Newegg has both 9800np and 9700 pro cards in stock.

Might want to throw the Geforce 5900nu into the mix too. The over clock like crazy if you get one with the 2.2ns ram and at $200 its one of the better bang for the buck deals rightnow.

You forgot to the put 9700 in there

9600xt is the best out of the ones you listed, but you can pick up 9700's for under $200 which would be a good deal faster.

9600xt will smoke a 9800np? funny as my 8500 is years old and still not slower than a 9100, or a 9000? i would have expected it to have fallen off the charts. lol.

Are you absolutely sure the 9600xt is (much?) better then the 9800 SE?! Could anybody please explain why?! Any articles/benchmarks that show this?! Thanks!

I think you're still living off of old heat.

9500 Pro

Core Clock 275
Mem Clock 270
Pipelines 8x1
Mem Bus 128-bit

9600 XT

Core Clock 500
Mem Clock 300
Piplines 4x1
Mem Bus 128-bit

The only thing that the 9600 XT has less than the 9500 Pro is .2GTs Fillrate, which is so small, it's negligible. On the other hand, the 9500 Pro has .96GB of Bandwidth less, and that is a decent amount.

So theoretically, the 9600 XT should be faster and I don't doubt that with the new drivers and OverDrive feature it is.

9800 XT > 9800 Pro > 9700 Pro > 9800 > 9700 > 9600 XT > 9500 Pro > 9600 Pro > 9600 > 9500

Stay away from anything that SE and nothing lower than the 9500 should be an upgrade option.

Well if you look at just the specs on paper it alone it seems a 9600xt should be faster. They both have 4 pipelines, but the 9600xt has a higher core clock, which would give it more fillrate. Their memory bandwidth would be similar if you were comparing the 128 bit version of the 9800se. If you were comparing the 256 bit version, it would be considerably more than that of a 9600xt, but the 9800 se often isn't fast enough to make use of the extra bandwidth. If you look at benchmarks then the 9600xt is usually faster.

The 9500Pro performs better than the 9600Pro?

Yep, it does! By the way, the ommission of the 9700 to Moralpanic's "chart" bothered me, so I added it
