very low tech level, so I appologize for obvious questions but I've tried searching on google, forums, etc.

the CPU voltage reads out as 0.0000v and can be increased from the default value to 0.3875V with 0.125V increments... I want to increase the overall CPU Voltage to 1.45, so how much should i increase it in that section of the bios? i'm using a conroe e6600 with the stock hsf. I only want to OC to like 1304 fsb.

what is the stock voltage? the specs list it as 0.850V-1.3525V

thanks!

Is that +0.3875V ? If its like this it shuold be with a + before it. So you want a 1304 FSB resulting in a CPU Speed of 2934. Download CPU-Z and see what it says on Voltage - It shuold be 1.325. Whatever the case 1.35 should be enough for that speed so I suggest +0.0325/0.0350 depending on whitch you have. If you want to you can increase voltage one step at a time and look at cpu-z. Download Orthos 2004 Stress and run it on default speeds to see how much v-droop your MB has. Question : Why 2934 MHz, what cooling you have and what RAM? That CPU should be able to reach 3.3-3.6 GHz on good Air cooling.

Also Plz use a digital camera and make shots of the BIOS overclocking section. Also there are some things to disable - if you have no idea better give screens so I or someone else can help you. There are C1 States, CPU VID CPU Thermal something I forgot - all those decreease speed and voltage on cpu so should be disabled. C2 State should be disabled by default (at least on gigabyte it is).

hey thanks, that will help alot. I'll grab CPU-Z as soon as I get home. As for why, I wanted to boost the speed up a bit, but was not trying to be overambitious since I have never OC'd before, and on top of that I'm using the stock HSF so I don't want to go to high and destroy my system.. other than the HSF the cooling provided is all stock from this case: http://www.newegg.com/product/...p?item=N82E16811144133

I was gonna go by this guys settings:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=29&threadid=2021717

I was able to do everything the same as he posted except the CPU voltage, which I should now be able to figure out... but is there anything I'm missing?

thanks again!

Well I doubt you are missing something. I saw the settings - nice thread just don't use 2.1 on your ram unless it needs it. One more thing you can do is post all your hardware. Also what is the PSU of that Case ? And one more thing - Go buy Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - its hell cheap and can definetely hold your cpu at 3000+ maybe even 3600 depending on voltage.

PS - I read in that thread that +0.0375 is 1.35v just like I told you

cpu-z has the voltage jumping around between 1.176 and 1.296 with all the cmos settings at default

Don't be disabling features willy-nilly. You want to leave Intel TM/TM2/Thermal monitoring ENABLED. Otherwise your CPU could fry itself if it gets too hot. Likewise, Intel VT/Virtualization Technology doesn't hurt your overclock in any way if enabled. Same with Execute Disabled.

The two that you should be concerned with, are C1E/Enhanced Halt State and EIST/SpeedStep. Those will mess around with your multis and voltages while the system is running, potentially affecting your overclock. (Because they override your carefully BIOS-tweaked voltage settings and multi settings.)

Ok, I agree that you can leave this one. There is always CPU shutdown temperature in PC Health Status . I disabled it so far because I have never OCed on Retail Intel HSF - First rule - never overclock unless you are certain that your CPU Cooler is efficient enough
