Confusing Problems.....

I first experienced these problems when I was running the scan disk on Norton Antivirus 2002. I lefted it to run and left for work. When I got back, there was a BSOD with a buncha codes and something about a ntoskrnl.exe file being corrupted. After that everytime I'm in Windows, it would be very unstable, and restarts after gettin that BSOD. But after that i couldnt log on to windows anymore. So I decided to reformat, but it had problems copying some files, after the formatting procedure. So I figured maybe its my HD, so I swapped a brand new HD in, and finally I still had problems installing Windows. Im just totally clueless right now, ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks for listening to my problem.

IBM has some utilities you can download from their site that would help diagnose a disk problem. I noticed you have 2 optical drives. Have you tried installing the o/s from both drives? Be sure all your cards are removed (except video of course) when installing the o/s. Have nothing plugged in to any USB port while installing (not even a mouse....wow, that sounds familiar). Try disabling the l1 and l2 cache in the bios. Your performance will be CRIPPLED by disabling the cache, but if you get up and running, then you know what the problem is and you can scream "warranty" to AMD! If your 512M is 2 stix, try it with each individually. Try setting your bios to fail-safe defaults. You can always tweak it later when you get up and running. I don't know your experience level so forgive me if these suggestions sound amatuer to you.
