confusion on cpu coolers

I'm trying to pick out a cpu cooler and i'm a bit confused. The two factors that are needed are silence and that it will fit. i plan to get a e6750 and a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R with a p180 case. I tried looking at the charts on AT on the reviews but I get confused on whether a certain cooler delivers the stated performance on low or high since many of them have different noise levels on low and high.

I basically want a cpu cooler at around $50 that is silent and cools sufficiently. I do NOT plan to overclock so there is no need for a freezing cooler but something that will keep the stock cpu at low-enough temperatures. I liked the noctua but then figured out that virtually noone carries it. I'd also prefer a HS&F since i dont want to buy a fan separately

Any help is appreciated.

Well you really don't need to spend Fifty if you don't OC. There are plenty solutions at Twenty Five or so that are better than OEM cooling.

Arctic Cooling is one company that comes to mind...

im in the same boat.. looking at getting something that is better than the stock intel cooler but that is not to pricing ... looking at either the q6600 or the dual core 6750 as well.
was initially looking at the thermalright ultra 90 or 120, but then have to add a fan. or zalman 9000 series
also looking for something not too large or heavy.

not to make the search difficult

Did some digging... but need to look at more ... but the artic cooling freezer 7 pro is looking pretty decent

as long as its silent and it cools, it's fine by me

will the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro that dahak pointed out work?

If you're thinking of the q6600 and don't want to over-clock, the top-rated TR Ultra-120-Extreme is "adequate." And if you plan to OC, start shopping for water-cooling parts.

IMHO, of course!

Don't really plan to oc, just want something that is relatively cooler than the stock, from the what ive seen the artic looks like the one for me, might just end up using the stock too trying to keep upgrade on a budget as much as possible

i was looking at the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro but it has preapplied paste. i want to apply my own paste (arctic silver 5) so are there any good coolers that meet my above qualifications (better than stock cooling & silence) and dont have preapplied paste?

a. The pre-applied paste is MX-1.. better than Arctic Silver 5
b. If you insist, just wipe it off.
c. The cooler I linked above cools the same or better than the Frezzer Pro, is quieter and currently less expensive if you get that deal.
