Well, I am thoroughly confused!
The manual to the Asus A8N-sli Deluxe motherboard, on page 2-11, says:
"Due to CPU limitation, DIMM modules with 128 Mb memory chips or double-sided x16 memory chips are not supported in this motherboard."
It also says:
"Due to chipset resource allocation, the system may detect less than 4GB or system memory when you installed four 1GB DDR memory modules."
Well, I do not understand how a 1GB stick of memory could be used in the board based on the 128 Mb memory chip and x16 memory chip limitation.
My understanding is that a single sided 1GB non-ecc memory DIMM is made up of 8 128 Mb memory chips. Or a double sided dimm would have 16 or "x16" 64 Mb memory chips. So how could you use a 1GB memory stick made up in such a way? What 1GB memory stick does not have 128 Mb or x16 the limitation placed upon it? Is a 1GB memroy stick made up in some other way.
Also from the 2nd quoted statement above, if you load up 4GB into the motherboard, then how much does the system actual detect given the chipset resource allocation issues?
Also on a different note, I was told that 128 Mb stands for "megabits" and not "mebabytes". So why is it that it turns out that each or the 8 memory chips in a single DIMM module specified with a 128x64 spec just so happens to be 128 megabytes in size? What does the 64 stand for exactly ?
Has anyone successfully installed 4Megabytes of memory (and have the computer use it) into the Asus A8N-sli? If so what brand memory? What was the layout of the memory module?
What is the fastest ECC modules available for the board? DO you know the 4 timings of the memory.
