Flaws in #1,2

Google and Facebook are apps people can easily move away from. Changing ISPs is way more problematic.

Flaw in #4. Presume Republicans will act like assholes against the interests of people....ooops
At the very least people should be able to opt out.

At the very least is should be opt in (default is that monitoring is a crime). The question should be "do you want us to start tracking your online activities on our infinitely hackable servers so that we can sell it to other entities for our own profit".

Seriously if corporations are indeed people, how are they able to get away with this? I am a person. If I decided to monitor my neighbor's internet activity and save it all to my own hard drive, would I not have committed a crime? If a corporation is a person, why haven't they committed a crime in doing the exact same thing?

I thought you knew that corporations are people only when it comes to contributing money to political campaigns when it comes to everything else they aren't people.

Edit: In case it isn't obvious to most this is meant as sarcasm

Edit 2: The 2nd part is when it comes to their liabilities when they violate laws.

Good thing there are not more important issues to address than this FCC ruling.

you mean like fantasy wire-tapping claims from the depraved mind of our dementia-ridden Turnip-in-chief?

lol--you actually think real problematic bills are the distraction from the nonsense fantasies and complete lack of work that your Messiah is dumping into our attention.

Do you read what people post or do you have a "Troll" button that randomly posts? Messing with this FCC ruling should be at the bottom of the the to-do list for Congress. Or do you think that it's ok for more people have access to information that probably shouldn't have? I know the Dims seem to love changing the rules to favor less privacy protection.... for their political opponents anyways.

Imagine what would happen if a government funded program was in place to teach specifics of Christianity or Judaism? Every fringe victim group would be fighting each other to be the first to file lawsuits about separation of church and state and violation of the Establishment Clause.

I'm sure in your mind you think you are making a valid point, but I can assure you it has no bearing whatsoever on the implications on the bill this thread is discussing.

It's an emergency diversion procedure.

...and thus it is acceptable for ISPs to spy on you and sell your personal data to the highest bidder without consent..... and this is exactly what Republican voters were hoping for when they voted for Trump..... the complete evisceration of their online privacy rights at a federal level

I heard Rand Paul today all hot and bothered about Unmaksing foreign individuals. And it dawned on me. How many regular people would ever be in a situation to be unmasked. All the while the GOP just allowed the ISPs to sell personal data on you. The GOP is so fuxed up.

Wait, you actually made this post TODAY, even after the proof and admittance of surveillance has made it to the mainstream news?

Come on dude, at least make statements that can't be immediately verified as false.

Google Access Islam Department of Education. You can decide if any of the links are valid or alt facts. I hate posting links because someone always discredits the source chosen.
Okay. I just did. Zero reputable sources.

But I do agree that Congress had better things to do than pass this turd, but they got paid to pass this turd.

Does this mean you're happy to let ISPs monetize your internet habits?

How is Verizon remotely comparable to Google and Facebook? If Verizon is your provider, you likely have little choice in the matter. It's much easier to avoid Google and Facebook if you don't like their data collection habits. Way to uncritically swallow the BS rationalization shoveled to you by this congress.

Here is my problem with isp's collecting and selling data. They'll set up tiers like $30 extra per month for your data to opt out of collection. They'll spin it as a discount right after they raise the rates.

That kind of pricing would make VPNs like PIA at $40/year a total steal. Just have to spread the word to non-technical people.

Even though people talk about rolling back the privacy regulation this bill actually does THREE important things and fails to do one important thing.

Things this bill does:
  1. Repeals Internet privacy regulations.
  2. Prohibits the FCC from ever issuing similar consumer privacy protections.
  3. Directs that any future Internet privacy protections should come from the FTC.
What does the bill not do? Authorize the FTC to actually issue any protections.

This has been said multiple times. False equivalence.
