Hi, I want to talk about on this forum a very dangerous trade treaty that could end up censoring tech and information forums like this one and it is being sneaked through Congress and put into a Trade deal called the Trans Pacific Partnership.

This Trans Pacific Partnership is a treaty between the United States and 12 mostly rogue Asian Nations and is being done in secret. The only reason we know about this Treaty is because Wikileaks recently released parts of this treaty but it could mean the end of the internet should this Trade Treaty pass both the US House and Senate. https://wikileaks.org/tpp/

The Trans Pacific Partnership Treaty part that will censor the internet contains the infamous SOPA and PIPA and ACTA bills that many people opposed that could end up putting people in jail for streaming or posting or even linking on forums like this a Youtube Video that anyone can claim contains COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT. Even writing about building a PC or jail breaking your Iphone or Android phone could get you thrown in jail and off the internet and can make it illegal for you to even put other links in regard to a news topic or reviews when it comes to tech and allows police to monitor or spy even through your e-mails.

Please click these links to learn more about what the Trans Pacific Partnership will do to forums such as this if it passes the House and Senate and I should mention, President Obama and many Republican Congressman in the House of Representatives favor this treaty called the Trans Pacific Partnership. http://www.thenewamerican.com/econo...n-congress-alive-in-trans-pacific-partnership & http://stoptpp.org/thefacts/ & http://blogs.computerworld.com/inte...-sopa-steroids-may-be-end-internet-we-know-it & http://www.pcworld.co.nz/article/541047/tech_firms_oppose_fast-tracking_trans-pacific_partnership/ & https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2014/02/obama-pushes-tpp-despite-mounting-opposition

From Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEO0faMuZoY & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF6XWaiRMcc & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH72Ykf4b4Y

This treaty will END THE FREE AND OPEN INTERNET AS WE KNOW IT, plus the sneaks in Washington want to surrender there power the negotiate this Trade Treaty and hand it over to SOPA and PIPA internet Censorship lobbyist using a method called Trade Promotion Authority or FAST TRACK http://www.stopfasttrack.com/ & https://action.eff.org/o/9042/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=9357 & http://dailycaller.com/2014/02/17/the-trampling-pacific-partnership/

What Fast Track is basically is usually in Congress when an international trade treaty is agreed to such as this one the Senate votes on Trade Treaties and it must be heavily debated and in order to become ratified it needs 67 votes in the Senate in order to pass and there are usually amendments or changes put into place on an international Trade Treaty. If Congress (HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATE PASS TRADE PROMOTION AUTHORITY) Then an international Trade Treaty only needs 51 votes and there can be NO AMENDMENTS OR CHANGES TO THE TREATY AND NO FILIBUSTER OR STOPPING THIS TRANS PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP TREATY ONCE IT HITS THE SENATE FLOOR)

I urge you people who believe in innovation and people that love are Free and Open internet to call Congress 2022243121 give the operator your Zip Code or e-mail your Legislators in the House of Representatives http://house.gov/ and Senators http://www.senate.gov/ and tell them NO TO THE TRANS PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP AND TRADE PROMOTION AUTHORITY and remind them this is an election year and you have the vote.

Please as well sign these 2 petitions below and Facebook and Twitter them to friends and family online. Remember if this Trade Treaty passes many of us will lose are favorite web pages and be restricted for what we say or put online and the Supreme Court has already ruled that once a Trade Treaty with other countries is RATIFIED and voted on, IT CANNOT BE CHANGED and the SOPA and PIPA pushers are also going to use this treaty to CREATE NEW COURTS that will undermined FAIR USE http://www.thenewamerican.com/econo...kes-legal-authority-away-from-domestic-courts and will take away Free Speech rights guaranteed by the US Constitution so this is important. Again here are the petitions to sign so ADD YOUR NAME TO THEM, PLEASE https://stopthesecrecy.net/?src=fftf&t=dXNlcmlkPTUxOTU4NjIyLGVtYWlsaWQ9NjYxMQ== & http://cms.fightforthefuture.org/stopfasttrack-email/

Please keep the internet and innovation online FREE. Do not let Washington Lobbyist ruin are internet. Please tell your Representatives and Senators that you OPPOSE FAST TRACK AND THE TRANS PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP.

Thank you

Yeah, Obama is "too liberal" LOL.
We need true progressives running this country, but all we get are corporatists, because they parade as "moderates" and moderation between good and evil is supposed to be a good thing.

I find our Government amazing. A straight up turd like this can get an up or down no filibuster vote but just about everything else like a jobs bill or public works bill are designed to be stymied forever.

While I'm 100% against SOPA and other such bills, a bunch of things in the OP are wrong.

SOPA and other changes to US law are just that, changes to US law. You can't get around that by signing a treaty. That's the difference between self executing and non-self executing treaties. So even if Obama signs a treaty today that says "SOPA is the law" and the senate ratifies it, that doesn't actually change anything.

RT and Democracy now have been hammering this issue for months. There is a very good interview here: http://www.democracynow.org/2013/10/4/a_corporate_trojan_horse_obama_pushes
I have contacted my legislators but have not received a cogent response yet.
OP - Great post, keep up the fight!
What disturbs me the most are the "courts" that will be setup in international investor-state arbitration courts. Decisions in these closed door tribunals are made by three investment lawyers working on a for-profit basis with no obligation to balance the public interest with the profit-making interest of corporations. Governments, meanwhile, have no corresponding right to bring legal action against corporations in these arbitration tribunals when they breach national environmental regulations or human rights laws. It’s all one-way traffic.

^^mine are against thank god
Being serious can anyone name a recent trade agreement that has benefited the US? We seem to always get shafted so personally I'd prefer no more trade agreements.

Unfortunately, one of the few areas where left and right wing agree completely: more government control. They might differ on how they want to use that control, but they agree that they want more control and power to censor anything they don't like.

At least I can say I was around to see the days when the internet was largely unregulated and an open area for ideas (ie, 15-20 years ago), it's quickly dying.

Yep, although wanting to kill and it being killed may be two different things.

:'wub::thumbsup:

Moderates agree on all the wrong things, and drive us towards disastrous policy. Prime Example: Affordable Care Act.

Its amazing how quiet the media is on this issue.

I too find it amazing and sad that the open internet we all love, an internet with freedom of speech as one of its cornerstone concepts will be gone. The media of old where they stood up and challenged the gov't is gone. The media of today are a sycophantic group who do not rock the boat, ever, for fear of corporate retribution who go hand in hand with the gov't....they simply go along to get along. For fun name a media outlet that is independent, reports the truth and so on. They no longer exist save for a very few individuals.
