Ya, that's the oddish part. He also seemed quite interested in Ages, just a little much. Is that Illegal/Unethical though? I mean, if any of us were to get involved with a chick, wouldn't we want to be sure she was 18+(or whatever age appropriate)first?

I don't think asking for an age is illegal/unethical. However, the other link mentioning sexually explicit emails with multiple underage males certainly is on the edge of being illegal. Even if it is legal, it will get the American public mad.

The GOP will need to scramble in the next 6 weeks to find a candidate able to put up a good fight against the Democratic front-runner.

Well, CNN still uses the word resign. In the end, it doesn't really matter. The election is coming quite soon.

In my experience, closet gays are the most homophobic of all people. They don't want to admit their feelings and thus go way out of their way to the other side. I think it is an attempt to convince themselves and others that they are straight.

I am reading the Florida law and according to section 100.111.(4a), Foley's name has to stay on the ballot and all votes for him go to the replacement candidate the Republican party chooses. I am sure someone will take his place ... but who would want to be the replacement person and ask people to vote for you through Foley? There's not much time to raise money or mount much of a campaign. This seat has a partisan index of R (+2) so a conservative Democrat can win and in theory keep the seat.

Foley was the co-chair of the Missing and Exploited Children Caucus in the House!

While I want the Dems to take back Congress to give an appearance of a balance of power....this is absolutely horrific news. Not because he was a Congressman, but because of what he "alledgedly" did to children's lives.

I think that this is the worst part of it....

A spokesman for Foley, the chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, said the congressman submitted his resignation in a letter late this afternoon to Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.

He was either a complete sociopath and used that committee position as a cover to make people think he was an advocate against this type of behavior....or he was a truly sick fvck who was on that committee cause he got off on hearing stories about.

Yah, I mean it's not like he was banging an intern and lied about it or anything and refused to resign. What really matters is that he belongs to a party that says you should have morals. It's perfectly OK to not have morals, just don't belong to the party that ascribes to them. Plenty of room for partisans, bigots and pedophiles in the democrat party, troll.

Edit: and for the record, sounds like a good riddance, there's no room for pedophiles in politics or anywhere, closeted or not. I personally don't care about the politics of it, but if it gives you a chubby, cest la vie.

WASHINGTON - Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., resigned from Congress on Friday, effective immediately, in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former teenage male page.

The page was 16 at the time of the e-mail correspondence.

In 2003, Foley faced questions about his sexual orientation as he prepared to run for Sen. Bob Graham's seat. At a news conference in May of that year, he said he would not comment on rumors he was gay.

Foley wrote, "I am back in Florida now...its nice here...been raining today...it sounds like you will have some fun over the next few weeks...how old are you now?" and "how are you weathering the hurricane...are you safe...send me an email pic of you as well."

Foley, who represents an area around Palm Beach County, e-mailed the page in August 2005. The page had worked for Rep. Rodney Alexander (news, bio, voting record), R-La., and Foley asked him how he was doing after Hurricane Katrina and what he wanted for his birthday.

Florida Law says after the primary the Republicans can pick a new candidate, but Mark Foley's name stays on the ballot with votes for Mark Foley counting towards the newly selected Republican candidate. Of course among other things there is the issue of whoever is running for the Republican seat explaining this to the voters, and some voters may not be able to bring themselves to put a mark right by Mark Foley's name at this point.
