The GOP leadership knew enough about Foley's "problem" to meet with him and tell him to knock it off. At this point, these same GOP leaders are either grossly negligent or clumsily stupid. You pick!

THE holy sh!t just hit the fan! Defend this PJ! I dare you. And none of this BS disclaimer where you claim that you're not defending Foley and then you proceed to do exactly that.

Where do the apologies end for this sick bastard?!?

Can't wait for the apologists explanation of this one. I'm betting it has the word Clinton in it though.

I wish the mods would assign a nice vacation for anyone who utters "Clinton" in a completely unrelated thread. Mods? Are you listening?!

That wouldn't work because EVERYTHING is his fault, so he is relevant in all topics.

I wonder how long it will take to introduce a bill to change pedophilia laws for Congressional members and make it retroactive.

The story from Darkhawk28's link:
New Foley Instant Messages; Had Internet Sex While Awaiting House Vote

October 03, 2006 1:22 PM

Brian Ross and Maddy Sauer Report:

Former Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) interrupted a vote on the floor of the House in 2003 to engage in Internet sex with a high school student who had served as a congressional page, according to new Internet instant messages provided to ABC News by former pages.

ABC News now has obtained 52 separate instant message exchanges, which former pages say were sent by Foley, using the screen name Maf54, to two different boys under the age of 18.

This message was dated April 2003, at approximately 7 p.m., according to the message time stamp.

Maf54: I miss you
Teen: ya me too
Maf54: we are still voting
Maf54: you miss me too

The exchange continues in which Foley and the teen both appear to describe having sexual orgasms.

Maf54: ok..i better go vote..did you know you would have this effect on me
Teen: lol I guessed
Teen: ya go vote?I don't want to keep you from doing our job
Maf54: can I have a good kiss goodnight
Teen: :-*
Teen: <kiss>

The House voted that evening on HR 1559, Emergency War Time supplemental appropriations.

According to another message, Foley also invites the teen and a friend to come to his house near Capitol Hill so they can drink alcohol.

Teen: are you going to be in town over the veterans day weekend
Maf54: I may be now that your coming
Maf54: who you coming to visit
Teen: haha good stuff
Teen: umm no one really

Maf54: we will be adjourned ny then
Teen: oh good
Maf54: by
Maf54: then we can have a few drinks
Maf54: lol
Teen: yes yes ;-)
Maf54: your not old enough to drink
Teen: shhh?
Maf54: ok
Teen: that's not what my ID says
Teen: lol
Maf54: ok
Teen: I probably shouldn't be telling you that huh
Maf54: we may need to drink at my house so we don't get busted

"Interviewed by Rush Limbaugh today, House Speaker Hastert said Mark Foley?s inappropriate behavior was ?a political issue? and promised Rush that ?we are going on offense.?

The ?offense? is an effort to portray the scandal as a conspiracy specifically timed by liberals to affect the elections. ?We are the insulation to protect this country,? Hastert declared, ?and if they get to me it looks like they could affect our election as well?:

SPEAKER HASTERT: There were two pieces of paper out there, one that we knew about and we acted on; one that happened in 2003 we didn?t know about, but somebody had it, and, you know, they?re trying ? and they drop it the last day of the session, you know, before we adjourn on an election year. Now, we took care of Mr. Foley. We found out about it, asked him to resign. He did resign. He?s gone. We asked for an investigation. We?ve done that. We?re trying to build better protections for these page programs.

But, you know, this is a political issue in itself, too, and what we?ve tried to do as the Republican Party is make a better economy, protect this country against terrorism ? and we?ve worked at it ever since 9/11, worked with the president on it ? and there are some people that try to tear us down. We are the insulation to protect this country, and if they get to me it looks like they could affect our election as well. "

Taken from TP, full transcript on Rush's ministry of propaganda. Slobs Anonymous

What a surprise, it IS a liberal hitjob. I knew that Michael Reagan was always a pinko.

hey Prof. John, read this
ABCNEWS.com broke the news stories about the emails when many newspapers didn't think they had enough proof. Here is what Brian Ross said about who gave him the information.

?I hate to give up sources, but to the extent that I know the political parties of any of the people who helped us, it would be the same party,? Mr. Ross said, referring to Republicans.

Don't make the same logic error that ProfJohn made. The FBI knew of the 2005 emails only. They didn't know of the much worse 2003/2004 emails. And who knows what else is out there yet to be discovered.

hmm.. but if they knew of newer emails.. why not older ones too

Hopefully they confiscate every electronic device he has and search it.

SERIOUS ABUSE OF POWER .. taking advantage of children like this.. potentially trying to influence them to become gay like himself.. too bad he didn't seek help earlier..

Blaming the Democrats is disingenuous. First of all, there hasn't been any proof that Democrats knew of the explicit IM and withheld that information and leaked them now for political benefit. Everything I've seen shows that the emails WHICH the Republican leadership knew about months ago, were finally released by ABCNews. If someone leaked those emails ... then I say ABOUT TIME. Republicans knew of the emails and did next to nothing. When the emails came to light, ABCNews then obtained the IMs. Who do you think most likeley had the IMs - Foley and the pages and probably the ISPs. Perhaps, the pages sent them to ABCNews. Perhaps, the government was spying on people's IMs. Who knows. The fact is that Republicans didn't want to know or worst, they covered for one of their own instead of trying to protect underaged children. This is the story.
I don't think the leak was by an elected member of the Democratic Party.
Right now the best guess is that the web site that brought this information to light, and ABC got their news from them I believe, is owned by the same guy who tried to "out" Foley in 2003. It does seem consistent with this guys operating procedure. He seems to go after any gay who "hides" in the closet and I am sure he can not stand the fact that there was a gay Republican on congress who was not openly gay. But right now there is no proof, yet. The source of the e-mails will come to light in any criminal investigation, it has to, when that happens we will get the whole picture of how this came about.

As the Miami Herald said ?Democratic charges of a ''cover up'' of Mr. Foley's activities by the Republican House leadership seem not only premature but crassly political.?

The Dems would be better off letting the Republicans fail on their own than get involved with finger pointing. If it turns out that the timing of the release of this information was politically motivated then the Dems will be dealing with their own backlash.

Sounds like wishful thinking, "Professor".... Enjoy!

Plenty of "But Clinton!" in the reader comments on that Blotter page linked above (that and the usual "LIBERAL CONSPIRACY!" angle)

Bush (and the Republicans) could eat a live baby on TV, crap out the remains and the brain-dead would STILL stick by them, no matter what.

The older emails were to different pages. Different pages who didn't report them to the FBI. It is only the 2005 page (which had fairly harmless emails) that were known.
