Ok, so I have a electric acoustic guitar and i plugged it into the line in jack in the back of my computer. Now see, i got it to record right. like if i start a recorder program and play, it will record it, but im trying to figure out how i can make it just play on the speakers while i play it. aswell as it record it at the same time would be nice too.

so basically i wanna get my speakers to work as an amplifeer.

and please dont tell me to go buy a real guitar amplifeer, the reason i like this is cause i have good speakers and i can record while i play which is nice.

Any ideas on how to make the speakers work while playing and not just after playing the recorded file?

btw, ill hear a slight buzzy in the speakers unless i go to options and mute the line in so it looks like it is picking up a signal or its connected at least. i can record to so its gotta be connected.

and im using realtek. its a onboard HD audio thing. i have a intel mobo.

What you are asking for is a monitoring speaker capability - and I don't think that can be done by computer sound cards and speakers. You almost have to have an external amp with monitoring controls.

Thats kinda weird cause it will record it fine, and then when i play it, it sounds fine. so i know it can record it, and i know it can play it. so i thought it might aswell skip the record process and just play it live. i mean if you change the settings on the microphone, you can talk into the microphone and the sound will come out of the speakers, so thats live. i dont see why you cant do it with this input. perhaps i should just put my input into the microphone jack and see what happens.

That is another solution - not the pickup, but just use a microphone. A magnetic input jack probably would cause an impedence mismatch and result in a lot of hum and/or possible distortion.

I think some of the xfi i/o hubs have input monitoring... though you need an xfi card to get an aftermarket hub. This is interesting, becasue any other line in device will play as an auxilary device, I wonder why a guitar wouldn't...

The problem with electric guitars is that they are designed for input to a mixer, etc. The impedence on audio line in is not very great. This might help explain the problem:

i tried it and it didnt work. not sure why, i mean the microphone works and will give feedback. i dunno, but at least i can do direct recording to my comp. i guess ill just have to be happy with that. although i do get a tiny bit of feedback if put the mic next to my guitar and play and take the mic off "mute"

You need software that records using ASIO interfaces.

You're sound card also needs to have compatible ASIO drivers.

Download a DVR/TV tuner program
Select audio input as Line in
Turn on the program and you will get a video box, which will be blank of course, but your sound should stream straight from line in to line out.
