Connect power to PCIE_12V on mobo?

My motherboard has a 4-pin molex power connector labeled PCIE_12V. The manual says to connect a cable here when using two graphics cards. I'm only using one card, which has no auxillary power connector of its own. Would it hurt to connect the 4-pin +12V power cable from my PSU to the PCIE_12V on the motherboard? It doesn't sound like it's necessary, but I'd like to make sure the video card has an adequate power supply.

PSU: Corsair HX520W
M/B: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3P
Video: Asus EN7300GT

Thanks.

Hahaha. Do you know what the power draw of a 7300 card is? Far less than a basic PCIe 1.0 slot can supply by itself - no extra connections needed to card or motherboard.

No, I don't know. Which is kind of why I asked. With only 13 posts under my belt, I'm obviously a complete newbie here.

Anyway, my system will be for music production, not gaming, so I don't need a better video card.

Most ATers avoid assuming someone is "a complete newbie" simply from post count. Besides potentially being wide of the mark, it can also cause terrible offense.

Not suggesting a different or better card, only that your motherboard can easily supply the required wattage for the card through the expansion slot. Cards that require more power usually have sockets on the PCB for attaching PSU molex connectors (4, 6 or 8-pin).
