The X1900GT are worse in performance than the X1800XT cards as it is a bit like a dumbed down version of the X1800XT.
The cooler is also not as good as on the X1800XT or X1900XT versions as you can see from the picture.
The price is decent though as X1800XT cards are still above the $200 mark.

by cooler i mean, how loud is it? i ditched the stock x1900xt cooler and put on an accelero, on my desktop. my htpc, however, doesn't have a space available to that side of the graphics card. so single slot it is.

Single slot cooler, not loud at all (ymmv), improved version of X1800XL cooler, could do a better job though - I'm running 80's under load and low 90's overclocked under load. I wouldn't drop one into a already overheated box.

I believe the charm of the X1800GTO2 is that the extra pipes are already unlocked. There is a version of the X800GTO like this as well I believe. X1900GT's don't unlock unless you luck into one of the few with a prototype gpu in it. See the Techpowerup thread. Many do overclock well though. Mine will hit 658/711.

The better question would be how does it compare with a 7600GT ... As After rebate it's @ $20 more then a 7600GT. I'm thinking that extra $20 could go a long way.

the X1800XT might be slightly better but nothing to write home about. the X1900GT is equal to 7900GT and a 7900GT is about equal to a X1800XT .. http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/GTREVIEW/fear.htm

may be the 512MB X1800XT has the advantage at very high res not sure.

Am I the only one who is confoundedly confused by the model number system video cards use these days? What happened to larger numbers and extra 'X's being better than models with lower numbers and less 'X's.

This has gotten crazy. But I might be in for one. lol

Can you imagine ... someone gets paid to come up with the names. Ussualy I'm on top of all the names and relative performances ... for a while though I just gave up on the X8???? series though:

X800Pro
X850Pro
X800XT
X850XT
X800GT
X800GTO
And then differances between the AGP and PCIe versions with the same name... ugg.

I just became completely lost on that whole line. I still can't tell you which was the fastest.

eVGA has muddled up the NVIDIA names a bit with the 7600 GTS and the 7900 GTO ... but for the most part I've found NVIDIA much easier to follow.

I'm with you on this. Besides the model numbers, manufacturers produce different versions of every card with different sizes of RAM and opened pipes and coolers and whatnot that seem to significantly affect the card's performance

EDIT: Hmm...after further review, looks like this card has 36 pixel shaders and the one they mention in the Anandtech review uses 48 pixel shaders. So may be you need the XT and not a GT. I guess further review is required...I'll do that and update later tonight.

Seems very hot to me...and if you are folding@home, what an incredible boost to your numbers!

Folding@home FAQ re: ATI Client

At first, we will launch with support for X1900 cards only. X1800 cards do not provide the performance needed. These cards are actually quite different -- they have different processors (R520, R530 vs. the R580 [in the X1900 series]). The R580 makes a huge difference in performance -- its 48 pixel shaders are key, as we use pixel shaders for our computations. However, we are working to get reasonable performance from the X1800 cards (1/2 to 1/3 of the X1900) and we will likely support them soon (hopefully 1 month after the initial beta test roll out).

If I hadn't gotten the 7900gs from woot, i'd be all over this.
