One needs to get tough on the criminals rather than coddle them.

Your country is already by far the toughest of all Western countries when it comes to criminal justice. How could you possibly make it tougher?

First, I hate that we can't talk about this in Off Topic. It makes me feel dirty coming in here.

Second, if any of you imbeciles think that "gun control" is going to fix anything, I'll kindly point you towards "drug control".

We all know how spectacularly well that works, because nobody has access to drugs. Oh wait.

If you outlaw guns, only criminals will have guns. It's rather simple.

I'd better not here "well, he passed a background check and had no history of violence".

Something needs to be done and I am sick of such a reactive society that tends to make changes AFTER something happens. How much more blood has to be spilled until we realize that we need to make some major freaking reforms to what qualifies a potential gun owner to be one?

We ought to start looking at what's in the best long-term interests of our country and society and not be so hell-freaking-bent on what "my rights are".

You're right. Free speech can lead to all sorts of problems. We need to look at what's in our best interests and if that means eliminating free speech well so be it. You can't put your rights above the safety of others.

You would trust a teacher to put idea's in your child's head but not to carry a weapon?

No, and I work as a teacher. I don't want guns in our schools unless in the hands of trained professionals like police. Your solution wouldn't work any better in this case than the CO shootings as the shooter was wearing a vest.

Pushing ourselves towards an even more armed society isn't the solution I want. Btw, this is coming from a gun owner who has been around guns most of his life who is also and Army Vet. But I also realize this isn't and shouldn't become the old west where everyone is packing.

I'm fine with increased background checks and waiting periods, but we also need to tackle mental health in this nation instead of ignoring it.

Btw, my heart goes out to the victims, I have a ten year old son and would be devastated if something like that happened. Same goes for the 250 students I teach weekly.

Already talking gun control?

My tinfoil hat says Ryan Laza has a connection to David Axelrod. Nothing like an epic shooting of children to sway public opinion on the 2nd Amendment. Obamacare was to his first term what revoking the 2nd Amendment will be to his second term.

Here is a nice comment I just read:
I would also talk about gun laws that don't get enforced, and a mental health system that works only for those with money. We need to talk about parents that are raising monstrously selfish children. We need to talk about a school systems that have their hands tied with it comes to disciplining problem kids. We need to talk about children being drugged with Ritalin and adderall because it is easier to drug them , than parent them. This country has lost its way. Blaming only guns is not going to solve anything.

I wouldn't have any problem with a mature responsible person carrying a firearm around my kids.

Already talking gun control?

Bound to happen. The Daily Show talked about this very topic last week and posed the question how long do you wait ..... at this rate the question should never come up as we have roughly 20 mass shooting a year in this country. Simply not enough waiting time.

On the other side of the control fence you also have people pushing the other way saying we need more guns to stop the problem.

Daughter said:
Daddy, Ms. Carry told us today that 2000 years ago dinosaurs were killing everybody until Jesus made them all disappear!

Ms. Carry has some weird beliefs, and you shouldn't trust her on things other than ABCs and addition. Dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago, and Jesus, while probably a real historical figure who had some good ideas for the time, was just this guy, you know?

Daughter said:
Daddy, Ms. Carry's husband got caught being naughty with their 13 year old baby sitter, so Ms. Carry killed him then came to school and shot us all dead.

You sir, win the internet.

Now that's some nice perspective.

It sounds rather grand but it's actually quite silly. Yes, I'd prefer ideologically driven teacher to armed teachers. Society provides plenty of checks against idea-crazy teachers. Not so much for gun-crazy teachers.

FYI, adding "my tinfoil hat" doesn't sidestep the fact that what you proceeded to write makes you sound like a fucking retard.
