Sure, here's the data I found for number of mass shooting incidents from 1990 through 2011. Keep in mind that this includes all weapons, not just "assault weapons".

Not only has the number of incidents fluctuated randomly throughout the past 22 years, but it averages around 2.1 incidents per year. Note that the assault weapons ban, which was enacted from 1994-2004, made no impact on this trend.

Here is what the DOJ said about the AWB's effects in a university backed study released in 2004:

Should it be renewed, the ban’s effects on gun violence are likely to be small at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement. Assault weapons were rarely used in gun crimes even before the ban. Large capacity magazines are involved in a more substantial share of gun crimes, but it is not clear how often the outcomes of gun attacks depend on the ability of offenders to fire more than ten shots (the current magazine capacity limit) without reloading

The fact is that mass shootings account for less than 0.5% of all firearms-related homicides, and "assault weapons" with "large-capacity magazines" account for less than 2% of gun crime. The rest is committed with your plain jane handgun, hunting rifle or shotgun.

People need to realize the mental health "experts" make people worse and have for a long time. They don't really address causes and make excuses for bad behavior by reducing everything down to neuro-bilology. The left in America hates the idea of character and responsibility. NBC is now reporting as unconfirmed that the shooter was Ryan Lanza, 24 years old, and his mother worked at that school. They are implying she is one of the victims at the school, though they stressed over and over that this information is not confirmed and may very likely change.

NBC is now saying that his mother was the teacher in the classroom where most students were killed.

Stricter gun control laws. Really strict. Ban them from the general population. Hunters and professionals can get guns but make them extremely expensive and require collateral of all equity. Have a 7 year waiting period so that nobody under the age of 25 can get a gun and require an extensive and expensive gun training program. Also, we need to bring back the rack in case a shooter lives.

Most of the mass shootings have been done with handguns. Are you implying that the size of the magazine made a difference in this case? Even the Arizona shooting, the 30rd mag the guy was using almost definitely saved lives because it jammed (as they tend to do, manufactures mags almost never jam) on him and allowed people to tackle him. It quite literally takes a few seconds to slap in a fresh mag and continue shooting.
