Connecting 2 wire sub to "pre out" rca style receiver port?

Here's the receiver im looking at getting:
Onkyo TX-SR304
back of receiver

subwoofer's cables look like this

for the time being im hoping to borrow a set of 5.1 speakers from an old HTIB set till I can get my hands on some better speakers. My problem is that I dont know if I will be able to connect my subwoofer. There is 5 connections for my black/red speaker wires from my speakers but the sub only has the 2 wire connections off of it and does not appear to have a place to connect to on the receiver.

Is there such a thing as a cheap adapter that could solve this issue in the meantime?

This is just going to be a super cheap home theater solution for tv/movies/games. Im not an audiophile I just need something to replace my half working receiver I currently have that shocks the crud out of me everytime I touch it. I can probably borrow my PC's Logitech X230 2.1 speakers for some decent quality if I decided I really want some thump at the cost of surround sound.

The receiver is passing along a low level signal meaning it's not amplified like the rest of the channels. Therefore you will need a powered subwoofer to get the sub channel working.

Pre-Out means "pre-amplifier" or "pre-amplified"

As stated above, the output to that pre-out RCA
cable will not be powered, and you'll need to get
a powered sub, or amplifier.

You can get a cheap pre-amp with gain from any
audio site.

If the HTIB receiver that you have works, you can use that as the amp for the sub since it was designed to be used with it already. You could send the 304's pre-out to an analog input on the HTIB receiver and then hook up just the subwoofer to it like you would normally.

oh haha, creative solution except no, the subs not working on the existing set right now...one of my biggest reasons for looking into a new receiver!

thanks for the all the help, no biggie that it wont work, ill just make due till i get a proper set...having 5 actual working speakers will be a joy anyhow
