Connecting a 8800 to a HDTV

I'm new to the whole area of interconnecting devices, so I'm not sure if this is an obvious/very basic question. It probably is though.

I recently assembled a new system with a 8800gts, and I'm thinking of using a DVI to HDMI converter to connect one of the DVI ports on the card to output to my HDTV. I'm quite sure this is possible, but I'm wondering if this would carry the audio signal as well, or just the video signal?

DVI does not carry the audio signal, so you will have to connect the audio to the TV another way.

And not all HDTV's will allow for separate audio in from a HDMI connection. It will depend on TV make and model. This is the kind of thing that separates the low end HDTV's from the high ends HDTV's. I personally use a DVI connection from my computer, but then, my HDTV accepts a DVI input as well as 3 HDMI's.

Also be sure to change the HD signal format from the nVidia control panel to match your tv's specs if required...say 1080p vs 1080i...makes a huge difference in image quality. When I first hooked up my Westy 37w3 it looked like a$$ because the HD signal was set to 1080i instead of 1080p.

Thanks, I was thinking it would turn out to be something similar to that. Since my TV doesn't have a seperate audio in for HDMI, it looks like I'll be making a cable out of dvi/component and a minijack/rca converters with their respective cables.
