Connecting Blu-Ray Player?

OK, I am trying to figure something out that I am not sure can even be done?

I have my Blu-Ray player in my bedroom, and I don't want to run Cat6 across the house to it's Ethernet port.

I know my BR Player can/will play files from a USB Thumb Drive connected into the USB/Network Slot in the back.

What I want to do it connect it via my WiFi Network, and be able to have some sort of storage attached to it to send media files to... Is this even possible?

I know about NMT's and other media players like that, but I don't have the funds for one at the moment, so I am trying to figure this out instead.

Any Suggestions as to products to look into?

LG BD670.

I bought a LG BD570 for 125 euros in December. But I see that there is now the 600 series. The prices seem to have gone up slightly. ~150 Euros for the BD670 on Dutch webshops.

Anyway, the BD570 is a BR-player. Does DVD-upscaling. And it can play most movie formats. Either via USB, ethernet or WiFi. The nicest thing is that it understands Windows file-sharing (Samba). I just export a directory on my PC, and the BD570 can simply browse through the directory structure and play the movies there.

You already have a BR-player, so maybe you don't want to buy another one. But if you do (and maybe can sell your current one, or use it somewhere else), then I would look into BR-players with WiFi. I was surprised with what I got for only 125 euros.

Have a Sony BD player with built in WiFi, works great with Netflix and Amazon streaming.

The secret is to do your research as the box is often misleading, as some are WiFi 'ready' which means you have to buy a WiFi adapter in addition, and typically they are proprietary thus you are stuck paying their often inflated price.

Sending media files to bluray player to store the media for playback later isn't possible on most players. You can stream it and watch it in real time but not store it. For that you need a set top box of some sort. Roku has some new boxes coming out soon that will support wifi out of the box and local storage via usb for drives. Price is set around $100

Yes, I figured this out the other day and there is a noticeable price difference between one that is 'ready' and one that is 'built in'

Also search online for a wifi adapter that may be compatible with your blu-ray player. I found a roswell one for my samsung tv from newegg. I am sure someone has figured out somewhere online which one that may be compatible with your current player.

Or you can do what someone above suggested and use an old router and create a bridge or buy a standalone bridge.

Cheaper to buy the single unit with WiFi, than to buy the one that is WiFi 'ready', then have to buy their WiFi adapter to actually get it to work.

Yeah, I am doing comparisons on different units at the moment, but for now a 16gb thumb-drive works for watching larger .MKV's lol
