Connecting the second computer with Broadband

I have two PCs. The first one is connected to the Internet via a modem. Now, I just got a second PC and I have a router laying around. I really don't need to network them together since they are used for completely opposite purposes. Besides, they are in two seperate rooms so I would have to take the wires through the living room and the hallway, so it's not for me right now.

My questions is: is there a way I can connect the second computer to the Internet via the router I have or would I need another DSL modem for my second computer?

A wireless router and USB PCI wireless card is what you need.

Your DSL router has a built in 4 port switch so connect both PC's into 2 of the ports. If cabling is an issue then you could buy a wirless Access Point and a wireless network card, both of which are really cheap these days. Connect the wireless access point into one of the spare ports of the built in swich in your router.

It's all very easy to do and if you have no need to communicate between your PC's then it doesnt matter. If you do then just use the wizard in Control Panel 'Set up Home or Office Network' and your good to go.

I assume if you are considering getting a second DSL modem that you are considering getting a second ISP account....... More cash for no reason.

So does that mean that I would need to another DSL modem (not router) for me to install Internet on my 2nd PC. And even after that I may even need a second account?

A DSL modem connects to one line, if you want to connect a second PC without using a router then you will need a second DSL modem connecting to a second and different line which will mean a second account. This is not the way to do it unless you have a unique reason. The best way is the router method, after all that's what it is designed for.
