Connecting to an outside network

I am running Windows 2003 Standard Server. I have basic home network.
I want to add network locations which reside OUTSIDE of my home network (the additional locations may be part of their own networks, connecting through a different ISP).

I've tried using VPN, but this causes the "outside" user to connect to the internet using MY ISP.

Basically, i want to connect 2 or 3 network locations so that we can all easily share files.

How can i do this, without using FTP?

Is more info needed?

All the network computers are running WINXP pro.

You mean without them using you internet connection to browse or to get to your server?

yea. that's pretty much what i want to do. I want the outside user to have access to my entire network (the same way that my local network users do). They can see anything shared basically. I would also like to be able to browse their shared directories/files).

like a virtual workgroup??

When I do this under my current cicumstances, the "outside" workstation becomes part of my network, and is now surfing the internet through MY ISP. Their IP address changes and everything. I want the outside user to maintain their ip address/isp and simply "log in" to my windows network to share files.

If you have the collaboration of your vpn users, you should asked them to modify the advanced properties of the ip configuration of their vpn connection so that "use remote default gateway" is not checked.

If you don't have their collaboration and you know what range of ip addresses they use, then just drop their outgoing traffic at your router.

Two Options.

1. Buy Back Bone Connections to all Sites and connect to the Internet without ISPs.

2. Get DialUp modems in all computers, and use the Telephone Lines.

You do not need ISP and Internet to use Telephone Lines. We had a lot of BBSs before the Internet time using 300BAUD Modems.

Running between the locations with Notes in your Hand will probably be faster.
