Never done this before, so need to know what do I need to have to connect to my PC at home from work.

Work PCs are slow P4s, so need to take into consideration that the soft is not too heavy on the PC.

Can I wake my PC from sleep using the soft at work ?

If your home PC has XP Pro or a similar version of Vista, you can get in with remote desktop. You may have to forward port 3389 on your home router or DSL/cable modem.

If you don't have a Pro Windows, you can look at VNC and tunneling it through SSH for security; but that's not nearly as easy.

As far as waking your home PC, unless your router/modem has that capability, you'd need another PC on your LAN to be awake to send the wakeup signal.

If you want to ignore the previous posters suggestions, the easy way is using logmein.com. Install the client on your home computer and simply log in using any browser on any computer with internet access to control your home computer remotely.

The previous poster's post was relevant and correct. logmein.com is just another option you have.

I think you have to buy Logmein Pro if you want to transfer files between machines. Logmein free works for maintenance and viewing though.

I would use logmein. I have it running on multiple computers and can use it from work with ease. I do notice the connection between work and home using logmein isn't quite as good as if I were at my friends house (we both use cable) using logmein. This program is by far the best free program for remote desktop/support. As stated above, you have to have the pro version to unlock some features. Go ahead and give the trial a try.
