A lot of the results are for the E6600. They're preorders at ~$357.00. Looks like the NDA might have been lifted early.

The E6600 is supposed to retail at $316.00 correct? So this is a $41.00 gouge. Not as bad as I thought the gouging would be. Still, I would wait for all the people who do not really care about the prices to buy them, and after stock builds up, hopefully the price will get to where it was said it should be.

Those are OEM chips in quantities above 1000.....So paying ~24 more for retail boxes like mine seem just fine....The shipping at 11.50 is a bit steep....I will have to talk to Tankguys about that....

No, 24.00 is not bad at all. It's great actually considering the performance you will be getting.

Yes, the shipping is insane for a box that weighs under 2 pounds. I shipped a motherboard, CPU, Heatsink/fan and PSU for 12.00 to California from NY USPS Priority. And that was with DC and insurance. So yes, Tankguys are thieving on the shipping a bit.

He is a business so perhaps we are being a bit tough considering he may have to pay a wage to a person packing the orders...so he needs to recoup some handling cost...He says he is making 5 bucks per chip....

I say it is fine....I would rather pay him then screwegg...

5 bucks per chip is quite huge if he is a high quantity reseller. (All PC items, not just CPU's). I could see if it was a Mom & Pop Shop and having a low volume business.

I dont think he is high quantity seller in anything....There are some obviously bigger sites charging more so they are obviously profitting more on the preorders...

In quantities of 1000, sure they do.. but that's not the point. The point is that the chip listed on that site isn't under some ridiculously high markup.

They don't, actually...for example the Pentium D 930 sells for $178 in lots of 1000, but Newegg sells them for $173. And remember that Newegg isn't the low-cost leader, they have the best service.
There's a second level of discounts for wholesalers...

Your comment proceeds from the assumption that I didn't know of the diversity that the term "retailers/wholesalers" represents. Well, I do. My comment was a general response.

It seems that they sold 2 X6800s in past 24 hours. (from "7 in stock" to "5 in stock")

And this isn't exactly the best comparison, look at what the Pentium EE 965 costs right now, this is still somewhat more expensive then what Intel charges for 1000 unit quantities.

Lower end processors actually do tend to be more inline with their price in 1000 quantities for Intel.

Well, when demand goes down for stuff you may have originally paid more for, sometimes you actually do have to sell at a loss (I'm talking in general terms, not about Intel procs in particular).

I'm pretty sure most resellers (big ones) have deals with Intel/AMD though, where they'll get compensated if they purchase stuff to resale but the demand is nowhere to be found.

On top of that, the pricing is also for lots of 1000, so if you're a huge purchaser you wouldn't neccessarily be paying that price. And most electronics stores buy their stuff from a distributor like Ingram Micro anyway, so it's really a question of how much money Ingram is paying for those CPUs, and I'm pretty sure Ingram buy s a LOT more than 1000 lol.

$5 profit on a $250 item is NOTHING. In fact I don't really believe they are making only $5 per chip. That's only a 2% markup which is WAY BELOW the norm, and would hardly cover the costs of operating the business. Normal markup is at least 15%, and like someone said to correct the morons, retailers don't pay the list price to Intel or AMD, not even the 1000 quantity orice, they pay a lot less. That's why even we the final consumers can get a single CPU below list price.

What amazes me is all the bickering about price.
Companies have to make a profit. If you don`t like what these peeps charge go elsewhere!
tankGuy is one of our own! They respond to thew most stoopid questions we can ask. They do it day after day after day!
So cut them some slack my God!
Nobody is forcing anybody to spend any money!
Too many children on these forums want something for nothing.
Again if you can`t afford it then get a better job or get your parents to give you a raise in your allowance..lol

the quote "5 bucks per chip is quite huge" should saved forever to show just how stupid an online moron can be (considering we are talking about a $250-$300 CPUs). What amazes me is the conviction with which this idiot is saying things he pulled out of his a$$ and has completely no clue about.

For fun I checked Techdata, a wholesaler, for the E6600. They part they have is BX80557e6600 at my price of 332.74. No retail price listed. I normally am about 10% off of retail becuase I sell so little. The earliest ETA date they have is 8/27.

I am guessing Intel raised the price a little.

The E6400 is 238.52
