I don’t understand the free speech angle. At this very moment, I am sure you can find thousands of posts similar to this girl’s on social media. For whatever reason, the social media mob descended on her. Yes, she should have demonstrated more maturity and discretion. But I also feel that social media amplifies voices that don’t contribute to the overall societal conversation.Perhaps I misinterpreted his post then. However, my own opinion is that, besides the free speech and voluntary association rights of the 2 parties directly involved in this exchange (employee and employer), there is also the free speech rights of the public at large. And if the employer chooses to listen to public opinion when making their decision, that is their right as well.
And.. it is my experience that derogatory terms like 'cancel culture and social media mob mentality' are usually employed to suppress or belittle public opinion that that person disagrees with.
For the record, I don't engage in 'cancel culture.' I deleted my twitter account a long time ago, and my FB is used solely for communicating with friends and relatives. But if I don't like a business' practices, I don't do business with them. Some people like to call that cancel culture, I call it consumer choice.
