I'd say that's a misapplication of statistics, though. It's like saying that 50% of people have a STD...it may be true, but your chances are still fairly slim if you wrap up.

I see some people are married at 20 with kid and a mortgage and a car loan.

I'm 25 (stupid biatch reminded me I'm turning 26 this Sept today, geez, thanks! ) and feel comfortable with myself to not have to go out and intentionally seek out a girlfriend just based out of peer pressure or parents telling me what I should or should not be doing at this certain age.

If I don't ever run into that special someone, then so be it. I'm not afraid of walking down the road alone. I'm not afraid of being postage stamped "loner" dieing old and alone.

I can do things and make decisions soley without having to run it by anybody. No kids or spouse depends on my income if I do something stupid and off myself accidentally (which I'll consider a blessing actually). I don't need to care about other people's feeling before doing things.

not long ago, i told myself (and friends and family) that i'd never get married. i wanted to "live it solo" -- be on my own, do my own thing, and no, i wasn't having sex with anyone at that time (religious reasons and personal preference). i made little comments to my friends that if i ever do get married, i'd be a 65-year-old maid -- the last one of my group of friends to ever get married, if at all.

well, when you meet the right one, your feelings really change. i'll tell you that. i'm happily married and i'm glad i made this choice. sure, you can want to live independently, and there are things that will still enable you to be on your own while having someone to come home to. love is a wonderful thing but you need to seek it out or it needs to find you. if you think marriage is a horrible concept, try it. if it didn't work out, then it was a bad match -- so try again. eventually, you'll be REALLY happy.

In the eyes of society though people beleive that people should get married at a certain age, grow old, have mortgage, car loan, kids, insurance, etc... as part of the overall picture in seeking that joy and hapiness. Society pressures you and makes you think that you're sticking out like an eyesore if you're anything otherwise.

People ask me all the time "oh where's your girlfriend?" or "when are you going to get a girlfriend?" or "when are you getting married?" or "I can hook you up with somebody". Give it a bloody rest. I can run the course of my (pathetic? then so be it) life myself, thankyou very much. Don't try to force things to happen.
