Considering G10 Plasma TV

but it's plasma, and I'm using it in a room that, during the day, is fairly bright. I have good control of light via some cellular shades, but I don't necessarily like to close all the blinds when I want to watch TV.

My question is this: are plasma screen reflections any worse than CRT reflections? I live with it now on my 27" CRT and it doesn't bug me too often. I don't live for my TV, the main use will be watching movies (Blu Ray, DVD and streaming).

The G10 has a AR coating, but I haven't read many comments about how good/bad it is (which is probably good, nobody is complaining...). Anyway, thanks for the input

i got the G15, you wont be disapointed with the G10, the AR coatings used on todays display panels is outstanding, reading the reviews and user post across the web time are very time consuming, and trying to understand thier truly intended use and how they may place a hdtv is another thing, just make up your mind and move forward.

Sorry to thread jack, but does the S14 (or S-series in general) have the same AR coating as the G-series? Also, iirc, the G15 has a different AR coating than the G10, doesn't it?

I have a plasma without any AR features and have two 3'x6' west facing windows on the wall to the side of the TV. I can watch in the afternoon with the blinds open with no problems. Now of course as the sun gets low and direct sunlight hits the room it is hard to see, but that would be the case with LCD, Plasma, CRT, Rear projection, etc. For that 1 hour a day if you sat where the TV was you would have to squint.

Other than that, I like my plasma very much and have found that it doesn't reflect any worse than the 36" CRT tube that it replaced. Once again, no anti-reflective treatment on mine.

from what i understand the S series doesnt get the same ar coating as the G series, the S series also doesnt have the same adjustment menu functions, and the G15 gets a slightly better panel, i am no expert by any means, use your own judgement, i also run the anti burn in disk for 150 hrs just as a caution, and only when it wasnt being watched.

G10 is a great bang for the buck display. We rock one in our masterbed and once calibrated looks lights out!

The antiglare on it works very well. Much better than the 58 panny we have in the fam room.

We recently go the G10. We had a new LCD in the house to compare it to and the G10's AR coating was as good, if not better, than the LCD's. It is definitely better than a CRT. But there IS still some glare. We watch TV/movies/play games on the TV (and it's great) but we aren't videophiles. For ~2 hours out of the day, there's a strip of direct sunlight shining on the TV. We can still see what's going on underneath the sunlight (to show you we aren't videophiles, I suppose we could put a curtain to cover the windows, but we don't go out of our ways to do that).

When there's only one light on in the family room, you can see the reflection of it in the TV when watching a movie (not too bad...if you focus, you can pay attention to what's below the reflection). But the light bulb is REALLY bright; I think it's 100w. If it was a 40w bulb, my guess would be it would barely be visible on the TV.

Sorry for the long post but I hope it helps.

any sheet of glass in a room with a light will reflect, the only way around that is no light on at all, that is something that manufactures of display screens will never be able to engineer out.

Thanks for all the reply's...they helped convince me to order the G10 today! Blazer, I realize there will be no getting around SOME reflect, I just want to be sure it isn't worse than my current CRT TV (reflect doesn't really bother me on the CRT).

Alimoalem, thanks for the detailed response, it's exactly what I was hoping to hear.

Sivart, sounds like your situation is worse than mine, so I should have no worries!

To the rest of you thanks for taking the time to reply. Keep them coming if anyone else has anything to add.
