Q&A

Q: Why another Antec Hot Deal thread?
A: Because there are so many of them that maybe it is time to consolidate, kind of like the long-running Corsair ValueRAM thread that was so useful to many.

Q: Who is the OEM for Antec PSUs?
A: The EarthWatts, TruePower Trio and Neo Power are made by Seasonic. The Basiq are FSP (Fortron). The Quattro are Enhance.

Q: Are Antec PSUs good?
A: Basically Antec PSUs (except Basiq) are pretty good if you can find them on sale. Not the best, far from the worst.

Q: Will you keep this thread updated?
A: Yes, as I find out about hot deals. Feel free to reply with your finds and updates, and I'll update the OP.

Just nabbed a EA380 from newegg to power an undervolted opteron box that I'm going to use for WHS. Can't beat the price and 380 is more than enough. 4-8 HDs, integrated mATX motherboard, no video card, no sound, no devices, etc.

my main rig has the following
Biostar TP35-D2-A7
4gigs of ram
e6400 @ 3.5ghz
HIS HD3870
benq odd
samsung 501LJ
I am only using 1 120mm yate loon in total with the CPU.

Do you know if my EW430 providing enough juice to the system? TIA.

Snagged one as well for a similar application. I missed out on the last deal so this was a heads up that it was back on.

Awsome thread Zap!!!

I bought a 380W version for an E6300 a few weeks ago and installed it last week. It's damn quiet and very cool (temperature wise). I tested an 512M HD3850 on it and it still runs super quiet and cool with only a hint of heat/noise when gaming. I was amazed. I'm thinking of getting an extra one to replace the 380W Truepower in my Sonata (or at least have it as backup).

How are people doing with their Antec rebates? I mailed one off on 10/17/07, more than 12 weeks ago, website says received and processing and another on 01/03/08 which is not on the website yet.

The rebate form promises mailing the check within 12 weeks of receipt.

Thanks. I just ordered the 380. That was exactly what I needed for my small & low-power file server.

So far I have had a few antec rebates from last year, including: EW380, EW430, 2 solos, 1 P180. All of them came through, and it took em about 3months roughly I believe.

I have not had any problems with Antec rebates. They do wait until the last minute of the 12 weeks to send the check. They may be a little behind due to the volume of all their rebate deals from the past several months They will probably mail it within a week. If not, call them.

If you already have an EA 430 (EarthWatts models are named "EA" + WATTAGE) then keep using it - it's fine IMO. If you are going to buy one, get the 500W model instead, for only $5 more.

Still waiting for mine from 10/24. I've done maybe 15+ Antec rebates in the past couple years and only one came up MIA. That's one too many, but about par for the course. :|

Gonna do the first update of the OP next. Thanks, mrbentley!

If you're not planning on using two graphics cards then you are fine.

thanks for input guys.

I have observed very few but occasional crashes after I put that vid card in. For now I am suspecting its prolly the northbridge getting too hot for not having any sort of active cooling on it. Good to know the PSU is good though, as expected

What type of case/cooling are you using w/you E6300, Engineer?
I'm switching from my CM RC690 to a Sonata III cause the 690's too noisy w/all the fans.
I guess i'll use the supplied EA500 PSU in the Sonata instead of my HX520 too...not that my PSU's noisy...just too lazy to yank it out...hehehe.

An older Thermaltake Mambo case with Zalman Fanmates on the fans and foam taped over the side inlets. I had a chance to listen to the PC last night without the tv on (quiet room) and the Earthwatts is very quiet, but not as quiet as the Seasonic that I pulled from the case (which will be used in an RC-690 case for the next build). However, the Earthwatts will be quieter when the 7600GT card is placed back in the case instead of the HD 3850.

As far as the RC-690 case , I hope it's quiet if I use only a few fans and control them. If not, I have a Centaurian case from CM to use. If that isn't quiet, I'll wish I had bought the P182 that was on sale at Fry's last week!

OMG, the EA 430 is now $25 AR FS at Newegg! OP has been updated. WTF, yesterday the EA 500 drops $5. Today the EA 430 drops $5. Will we see the EA 380 do the same, and be $15 AR FS tomorrow?

Also the 500w has an SSI connector. This is what most dual xeon and dual opteron systems require. That is why I bought
a 500w earthwatts power supply.

this might be a better deal of them all, smoking hot i would say after $10 off through GCO.

P180 was a nice case and all , but I would have had this instead as I liked solo more and built my main rig around it, and delegated the behemoth of a case to my secondary rig

I am going to recommend this case to two of my friends... This for sure would work better than a NSK1300 + 300W PSU that comes with it right? (provided that they could live without compactness and crampedness of a SFF case)

Thanks for that link - I'll add it to the OP... and may even buy one as a spare. Heck, it's cheaper than getting a generic even! This is also $2 cheaper than the previous deal at Newegg, though that one didn't need a rebate (but sold out super fast).

Don't think this case is as good as Antec's other cases though. I've done two builds in this case and it is the same chassis with a different face as some older Antec cases that I've also done builds in. Metal is thinner than the better Antec cases, plus the grommets aren't as soft as the ones in the Solo. Thus, a system using this case won't be as quiet. However, as I said it ends up being cheaper (shipped after rebate) than generics, and are still a ton better than those. IIRC it also comes with a TriCool fan.

NSK1300... isn't that the replacement for the Aria? I'd say that they hit two different market segments. This case is rather compact for holding an ATX board, but still it is a mid-tower design, versus the Aria being in the SFF niche. All depends on what your friends are looking for in a system.
