Today's CT -

They are intentionally screwing up diversity and inclusion in movies and games. That's why how it's done is so ham fisted and cringe worthy. They will stop doing it soon. In response to the very vocal minority they will simply say it lost all the monies. No monies, no movies or games. Ergo they are forced to make what sells. You'll just have to settle for the traditional lip service being paid to the idea and token representation. They won't say that part out loud.

Otherwise they would not mess with the cannon of existing fandoms, films, comics, and games. They would create new characters, new stories, and new "universes" for them to inhabit without color, gender, or ethnicity being a primary defining trait of the characters. The Marvels was a girl boss movie from director to writers to actors. It absolutely tanked. No way they spent that much money and had no idea it was going to bomb. The powers that be are playing it out so that they can squash it for good. Madame Web is another WTF how did it get made? How about Suicide Squad kills the Justice League? The way they handled Batman, they had to know that was going to make everyone go bananas.

Yup, they are going to sacrifice some monies now, so they can kill off any need to consider inclusion in major properties moving forward.

Not enough of a fan of the genre to care that much, but that sounds plausible to me, at least in relation to movies. Not sure it's conscious and deliberate though. A lot of the way the "diversity" thing gets manifested seems very cack-handed and "anvilicious" (to use a term that gives away I've read TVTropes too much). Seems as if they focus on the "diversity" stuff at the expense of proper story-telling and character development and the rest.
I never actually liked Star Wars, for instance, in the first place, but it seems as if the PC stuff has made it even worse.

Maybe it's because it isn't coming from the 'ground up' (as a natural consequence of genuine diversity and equality in the industry/soceity that produces it)? But is somehow being artificially imposed 'top down', by people who don't really know what they are doing or have other motives (that they aren't even fully aware of)?

I have always been a fan of the Law & Order franchise.. was recently catching up on SVU..

I don't recall the name of the episode but it had retail crime and a rape. While the detectives were investigating the rape.. the people they caught for retail theft were released on cashless bail and get this.. they raided the police station and stole their supplies/ office equipment.

One new girl cop draws her gun but Olivia Benson (the lead char) tells her not to.. she'll get into more trouble than it's worth because the law is what it is..

They've always taken license with current events but they're really making a point with how stupid the cashless bail is and that's produced by NBC.

The analytics must be telling them who the fan bases are for these properties and what they want. Force feeding them content they don't want isn't going to result in it being an "acquired taste." It results in them not spending money with you. And getting refunds when they do, because it leaves a bad taste and they don't want seconds.

If they are trying to get out in front of the changing demographics that make up the population, they are doing it all wrong. People, at least most of them, aren't interested in being pandered to.

Spiderman into the Spider Verse and Across the Spider Verse, as well as the Spiderman Miles Morales game, aren't so successful because of his ethnicity or color. They are big hits because that's just who he has always been. Marvel Comics for a good number of years has done a great job of inclusivity. It was edgy shit when they first introduced gay, black, native American, bi-sexual, autistic, etc. characters. And they have always done it organically, like real people. Not by magnifying those traits out of proportion, often at the expense of other characters. And that's the most important part, not at the expense of other established characters. Or by replacing existing ones with the new inclusive version. Here's a perfect example: Superman is bisexual now. How fucking stupid is that? Pandering bullshit. Because so many Zoomers identify that way, and they want their monies. They miss the point that most Zoomers give zero fucks to Superman, and you should make new cool bisexual superheroes for them. Not their great granddad's- "with a hip new vibe kids!"

Yeah, they have to be doing this shit intentionally. Otherwise you'd think the idiots in charge would have all been shit canned by now due to massive financial losses resutling from their continuous failures.

DEI is the least problematic issue with content though. In fact its often the only good part. Hollywood doesn't have any original ideas anymore, its sequels, superheroes, and mediocre forgettable action movies that are an amalgam of a few (heist, spy, sci-fi, martial arts, guns, car chase, often basically superhero in all but name) usually with an ensemble cast. They just rely on names of celebs to try and get people to watch whatever, and even that's starting to flop some.
