Wanted to format an old internal 1 TB drive SATA drive. Powered down server. Connected power and SATA to hard drive. Started server. Deleted all partitions, formatted drive.
Here is where I think I goofed. I hot unplugged the SATA connection. Then disconnected the power to the drive. From that point on, media server (running Win 10 Pro) had constant high drive usage. Reboot didn't help.
Figured I'd try to undo my goof. Powered down server. Connected power and SATA to drive. Booted server. Shut down. Disconnected drive. Now media server seems happy.
More out of curiosity, was Windows somehow looking for a drive that wasn't there or trying to access a drive that was not properly disconnected?
