alright, 2 weeks ago i was going to remove a window in my bathroom, and put up a new tub surround...

at this point i have no sink, tub, drywall, or toilet in my bathroom so as of now i am replacing my tub. the rough opening is 60 15/16" or ~1" wider than is expected.

Will a normal 60" tub/surround have some play room or should i drywall 1 side to bring the gap down? whats the best way to make things work out?

the house is on a slab and i will be putting in linoleum flooring...

can i use lauan for subfloor or do i need to use a BC grade material?

under the tub... slab, subfloor, or subfloor and linoleum?

thanks.

Fir out one wall after the tub is in place. I would use strips of wood ripped to whatever thickness I need.

I don't follow the plywood question. If there are wood joists you will of course need sub floor, if it's a concrete slab the vinyl flooring goes right on the concrete and up to the tub, which is also sitting on the concrete.

The nature of your questions indicates this may be beyond your current skill set.
Luan is not a suitable subfloor, (unless you don't give a crap) and anything on a slab will need moisture barrier, and everythin in a bathroom needs vapor barrier. You need something with an exterior rated glue and that can sit in moisture.

If you don't have some sort of thermal break between the slab and anything you put on it, you will be creating a heat sink in that area and it will always feel cold, due in part to the thermal conduction into the slab.
edit: looked at your profile. if you're in Ohio, you'll want to insulate that floor.

I would suggest finding someone to "help" you with the major points of code compliance and current methodology.
With all of the tradesmen out there NOT building houses, you should be able to find someone who you know that can keep you on the right track.

< is contemplating ripping out the bathroom here due to inadequate materials & methods used when house was bought 12 years ago.....
