Hi all, I'm currently using an HP Officejet 8600 Plus but need to add a second device that's more accessible to my family (since mine resides in my home office). However, I want it to be laser (doesn't need color), and it needs to have a flatbed capable of copying legal size material.

I inquired with HP about this, and they pointed me to the "LaserJet Enterprise MFP M527dn", which (LOL) is a whopping $1800!!! The printer I mentioned above has the bigger flatbed, so surely there has to be some consumer-level device with a bigger flatbed? Or have they just gone the way of the dinosaur? Any recommendations would be appreciated. TIA!

Never common.

Brother makes a couple inkjet MFPs with 11x17 flatbeds and sheet feeders.

They're inkjet, not laser. But given how much a standalone 11x17 scanner costs, it's cheaper to buy one of these for scanning and a separate laser printer for printing. Or, if you don't do too much printing (but do it frequently enough that the cartridges won't dry out) you may be happy with the inkjet.

Thanks! It looks like they do have some laser devices that have legal size scanning beds, too. I don't quite need a full 11x17, but she frequently needs to make copies out of her students' often-larger-than-letter-sized music books so they have secondary copies for contests. She only needs 8.5x11 output, but again, the source material is often slightly taller and bound in a volume (so she can't use the ADF).

For some reason, when I just did some general searches the other day on this, I came up with zilch.

And I do realize it'd be cheaper to go with separate options, but given the technical skill at play, it needs to be a single device with easy-to-use controls on the panel. God help me if she had to use a computer as an intermediary.

Ah. "Folio" sized music is often 9x12 or 10x13. So you want the full 11x17, not just an 8.5x14.

Incidentally, your scaling size will be 91% (9x12 -> 8.5x11) or 84% (10x13 -> 8.5x11).

I like it because it scans straight to Google Drive, which makes reading on a tablet easy.

Looks like the "laser" portion is actually what's primarily tripping me up, too. I was thinking laser because it's cheaper over the long haul and because she only needs monochrome, but such a beast is apparently rare I can see several OfficeJets on HPs site that do 8.5x14 and a couple that do 11x17. I hate the freaking ink-buying game, but it looks like I might not have a choice.
