I really like my Ionic Breeze's despite what everyone else says. I don't need perfectly clean air and I don't want some large noisy object in my room humming away. It does clean dirt out of the air and while not as much as other units, it does a fine job in the rooms I use it in.

No it doesn't clean any significant amount of dirt from the air, and in addition it releases ozone. Didn't you read the article? Oh well, cognitive dissonance. You'll keep telling yourself that it does the job fine because you already wasted your money on it.

Only thing I ever bought from Sharper that wasn't a complete waste of money was a shower head that mixed air with the water to help increase the water pressure since where I currently live now has horrible water pressure.

I also have one and it is always on. Every couple of weeks I clean the rods and there is always dust and grim on the rods that are removed. I think it works as I don't have the sinus issues that I did previously. You don't think it works, fine don't buy one. I bought mine new for much less than retail and I would do it again.

This is most likely what happened at The Sharper Image headquarters sometime during the latter half of the 1990s:

CEO to Executives: We're losing money! I need a SWAT analysis.
Execs: Done that, we have no "star" products. Just cash "cows".
CEO: Don't give me that sh!t. Invent a star product.
Execs: Yes sir.

Execs to Engineering team in China: Build us something that is very cheap to make that we can charge out the a$$ for!
Engineers: What should we design?
Execs: That's what we pay you $10/month for. Think something up!
Engineer 1: What is something we all need but don't have?
Engineer 2: The air sucks here in China! I need an air purifier.
Engineer 1: Bingo!

Engineers to Execs: We believe the future of The Sharper Image rests with air purifiers. Check out this one we've designed. It cleans the air perfectly!
Execs: What will it cost to build?
Engineers: $325 per unit!
Execs: Out of the question. People won't pay more than $350 for this thing and $25 is not enough profit margin! Get the cost down.
Engineers: We can't!

Marketing: Well, what do people usually ASSOCIATE with clean air? A CLEAN, FRESH SMELL!

Execs: How do we create a clean, fresh smell?
Engineers: Well, I think you could do that by pumping ozone into the air! Ozone smells good!
Execs: What would it cost to do that?
Engineers: We could build something for $5 to do that!
Execs: Brilliant!
Engineers: But what about environmental concerns? And what happens when people find out it doesn't actually clean the air?
Execs: Well, we certainly won't say anything! We'll just worry about that after we sell 2 million copies of our "Ozone Maker".
Engineers: You sure about this?
Execs: At $345 profit per unit sold, hell ya!

CEO: Build that fvcker!

Tell me why their is dirt all over the blades?

I read the articles before I bought mine and I bought it anyways. I ended up buying two because I liked the first one so much. My dad, a Consumer Report's loyalist, made fun of me and bought their top rated purifier. Before it arrived, he borrowed my Ionic Breeze.

Let's just say his high dollar purifier isn't even being used right now and I've never got my IB back. He won't give it up.

Maybe you should try each of them before blindly following a review, and then form an opinion.

While ozone dissipates indoors, it can create other pollutants in the process. Research suggests that ozone reacts with the terpenes in lemon- and pine-scented cleaning products and air fresheners, creating formaldehyde--a carcinogen--and other irritants. Those byproducts can be absorbed by beds and carpets, and be released over an extended time frame. Research has also found that ozone reacts with terpenes to create additional ultrafine particles, which are hard to filter and can go deep into lungs.

I have a regular fan that the blades get dirty on. Does that mean it's purifying my air?

If you turn your fan blades so they are perfectly vertical and never spin the blades, will the sides get dirty?

The answer is obviously no.

Your ignorance is no excuse.

You're right, The actual concept behind "electrostatic propulsion" is extremely cheap, just two grids of wire +/-, a tranformer @ 15,000Volts... about $5.

dirtboy, you have an emotional attachment since you spent $350 ... you're the same type who thinks all the stuff you buy is the best....plenty like that in General HW I just ignore them.

You know, I find a certain amount of amusing irony in having this discussion with someone named "dirtboy"

You can't be serious, can you?

Fan blades are at an angle to scoop the air. Friction is what grabs stuff on to the blades....
