No it doesn't clean any significant amount of dirt from the air, and in addition it releases ozone. Didn't you read the article? Oh well, cognitive dissonance. You'll keep telling yourself that it does the job fine because you already wasted your money on it.

OZONE RAISES OTHER THREATS
While ozone dissipates indoors, it can create other pollutants in the process. Research suggests that ozone reacts with the terpenes in lemon- and pine-scented cleaning products and air fresheners, creating formaldehyde--a carcinogen--and other irritants. Those byproducts can be absorbed by beds and carpets, and be released over an extended time frame. Research has also found that ozone reacts with terpenes to create additional ultrafine particles, which are hard to filter and can go deep into lungs.

Tell me why their is dirt all over the blades?
I read the articles before I bought mine and I bought it anyways. I ended up buying two because I liked the first one so much. My dad, a Consumer Report's loyalist, made fun of me and bought their top rated purifier. Before it arrived, he borrowed my Ionic Breeze.
Let's just say his high dollar purifier isn't even being used right now and I've never got my IB back. He won't give it up.
Maybe you should try each of them before blindly following a review, and then form an opinion.

It actually was the worst, most expensive AND created harmful ozone, a free radical.
PS anyone that buy anything at sharper image is an idiot as far as I'm concerned... thier whole store is about gimmicks and worthless junk

If you turn your fan blades so they are perfectly vertical and never spin the blades, will the sides get dirty?
The answer is obviously no.

Or you could be being duped by consumer reports now. Why would you blindly believe consumer reports more then you would sharper image? It is possible they are wrong.
