Wipe the front of your tv. Same thing as the Ionic breeze.

I hardly call my tv an "air purifier" though.

Sharper Image stands to profit off their lie. Consumer reports only stands to ruin their reputation by lying.

It's not so mcuh a lie as it is overinflated truth that excludes any mention of a carcinegon....

HOT DEAL!

I bet I can find an old 13'' tube for half the price of the IB!

?It is astonishing that Consumers Union would continue its misguided efforts to attack the judgment and experience of millions of Americans who are satisfied with the performance of the Ionic Breeze products,?

What an arrogant a$$hole.

Just because the damn thing is advertissed into the ground (thus the high amount of sales) doesn't mean its a good product.

You're right, The actual concept behind "electrostatic propulsion" is extremely cheap, just two grids of wire +/-, a tranformer @ 15,000Volts... about $5.

dirtboy, you have an emotional attachment since you spent $350 ... you're the same type who thinks all the stuff you buy is the best....plenty like that in General HW I just ignore them.

Nope. I spent $80 and I've owned them for 2 years and I can see them work. More than you can say. I am happy with the way they work. I never said they are the best, I said I believe they work and I am happy with them.

You folks blindly follow reviews and then act like you know something about them. Clearly, you're just a sheep to whatever review you are partial to.

No it doesn't clean any significant amount of dirt from the air, and in addition it releases ozone. Didn't you read the article? Oh well, cognitive dissonance. You'll keep telling yourself that it does the job fine because you already wasted your money on it.

Tell me why their is dirt all over the blades?

I read the articles before I bought mine and I bought it anyways. I ended up buying two because I liked the first one so much. My dad, a Consumer Report's loyalist, made fun of me and bought their top rated purifier. Before it arrived, he borrowed my Ionic Breeze.

Let's just say his high dollar purifier isn't even being used right now and I've never got my IB back. He won't give it up.

Maybe you should try each of them before blindly following a review, and then form an opinion.

That's just it, it's not an opinion. It's a fact. They can actually measure these things you know.

Edit-You are blindly following advertising! At least we are basing our opinions on actual research and not an advertisement.

I'm sorry, but the cold-shoulder to science approach won't work on a lot of people here.
I'm not trying to make you out to be an idiot or jsut plain ignorant, but you are makign it pretty hard for me.

Basically Sharper Image has championed their technology, saying that it is better than all others, and that is simply not true. They have spent exorbitant amounts on publicity, when in fact their product is not as effective as they say it is, and might even cause harm. The amounts of Ozonereleased could kill a man, but they could sure do harm to a cripple.

Do you even know who UL is?! Check every damn product in your house and see if it has a nice "UL" Stamped in it. UL specifications were used for their test. You really can't get more scientific in consumer reporting than that.

How else are you supposed to form an opinion on something without buying it? Would you buy a $3000 HDTV based on nothing but an ad from the company who makes the TV?

You should NEVER buy something based solely on the marketing of that product. Look at Monster Cable. Or those cell phone antenna boosters.

Reading reviews and educating yourself before a large purchase makes you a smart consumer - listening to the marketing drivel and making a decision on that makes you a sheep.

OK. Read this very carefully.

Your two Ionic Breezes, supposed "cleaners", are pumping O3, a carcinogen, into the atmosphere of your home. Do you understand what that means?

I'm sure Consumer Report is 100% unbiased and is 100% sure of what the hell they're doing. Hey, let's stop all the researches and let Consumer Report do it for us. WTF? There's a 30 day money back guarantee. If it doesn't work for you, return it.

I own one of these, but haven't been using it in a while, I got a "great" deal on it and only paid like $150 for a Quadra. The cleaning power info in the article doesn't really concern me (I think it cleans well for the sound output), but the increased health risk because of more ozone certainly does.

Look, you're missing the point.

I never said SI's techonology was the BEST for air purification. It was stated in this thread that these products don't work period.

All I've said is that they do work. I own two of them and I've used them against other air purifiers. I never said once that they purify more are or that they are better than others.

I said I believe they work through my own experience owning them.

You can call me a sheep, uneducated consumer and laugh at me all you want. I don't care. All I know, is that I've used them and I've used other ones, whicn is more that you or any other the other people posting in this thread can say.

I read the reviews before I bought it. I knew about the ozone before I bought it. I still like them to this day and I can tell a difference between the two rooms that I spend most of the time in -- the one with the IB in it, the air appears cleaner and the items in the room accumulate dust at a significantly slower rate than the other. Say what you want, but at least I'm relating my first hand experience, which is worth quite a bit from someone who is just repeating what they read.

Ok, I'm going to have to file you into the idiot category.

Do you not understand that ozone has no place in your home? Do you not understand that by running the ionic breeze, you may be removing harmless dust yet replacing it with a carcinogen, a source of oxygen free radicals?

Sounds wonderful, I'll take three!

The issue isn't it's filtration capability anymore, IMO. I've always said that it will be better than nothing, but in light of this ozone information, that is NOT the case.

Thanks for the informative thread. Now I'll never sit near my sis' ionic breezer. My sis bought one and it cost like $250. I think that's like the dumbest purchase she'd made. I don't see how that thing can cost more than $25. I never thought it works (only need common sense to figure it out), now that i know it produces OZone i think it is complete crap.

I like the way how some owners claim that they work becuase "Tell me why their is dirt all over the blades?". I guess if you consider attracting some dusts as working then i guess it works, but as a air purifier it doesn't.

Like the other poster here said a TV screen attract dusts very well but we don't consider it as "air purifier". The difference between a TV screen and the ionic blades? A TV screen attract dusts off stand-still air while the ionic blades attract dust off accelerated air. There is no real filtering elements in an ionic breezer and with such a low flow rate, it just doesn't purify the air other than trapping a tiny fraction of the dust in your room.

I've got a HEPA rated air purifier. it has some serious filters with active carbons, and it can push a great amount of air. If you've done air brushing and spray painting you know what air filters can do. I airbrush with model paints, they are harmful and smell bad. I use a breathing mask with filtering cartridges (much like my air purifier) and i can't smell any paint. Now imagine replacing the filters with a few pieces of charged blades and make an educated guess at how much harmful paint particles i'll breathe into my lungs.

Still I found my HEPA purifier not useful because i don't lock myself in the room. I spent over $100 on it and i regret it. Now ppl are trying to justify their purchase of ionic purifier. Maybe you can if it cost you $10-20, but ppl are spending $200-300 on garbage is just insane. Sh!t there are lots stupid consumers out there, maybe i should jump on the bandwagon and make a sh!tty product and advertise it to be a star and steal your money.
