Consumer version of Samsung SM961, how imminent?

I'm in the market for an m2 and I'm aware the 950 pro is the way to go, it's just that the release of the SM961 makes me think an updated consumer part is on the way soon. There is a substantial performance improvement, enough to warrant the wait imho.

I noticed the 950 pro came out about 4 months after the SM951 but that was also the first consumer NVMe M.2 for samsung so its hard to say if that is the norm going forward.

Anyway, has anyone heard anything about the 960 pro or the consumer version of the SM961 and when it might appear?

I'm pretty sure the SM951 was out for several months (~6) before we saw the 950 Pro, so with that said, seeing as the SM961 isn't even available on sites like Amazon or Newegg at this time, I would imagine you won't see a (presumably) 960 Pro until Q1 of 2017.

But that's just a guess...

I bought a pair of SM951 AHCI 128GB models for my pair of Skylake G4400 OCed rigs. They're nice, but they're not all that. Seq. read benchmarks at 2GB/sec, but random 4K QD32 IOPS are only around that of a good SATA6G drive. Maybe the AHCI controller is holding it back, I don't know.

I think I paid around $100 ea. for them. Newegg wants more than that on their ebay store for them now. Probably because of the $16 shipping charge, which is utterly ridiculous, given how small and lightweight they are. Maybe they're using a drop-shipper.

And of course my 30 day return window for 950 pro expired on Monday lol.

Just called Amazon and they will let me return for full refund. Yessss.

Now which one to get, Evo or pro?

Way to abuse the system!

Technically I'm not. I bought a open box from rewired warehouse deals. And runs extremely hot even when not in use.
Technically, you are.
You bought a product. You used it for 30+ days. There was no issues with said product.
All these units run hot, that is how they designed them, so crying about how hot they run--after 30 days of use is just lame.
Why not just put a heat spreader on the one you got?

So, basically, you used a product, rent free for 30+ days, and now, since a new version is coming out, you want that instead.

That, by definition, is abusing the system.

Actually because the 3 motherboards I went through, I've only had the system up and running for 10 days. So no I didn't have the system up and running for 30+ days, thank you very much MR, I assume everything know it all. The 950 pro has sat in the package for at least 20 days due to all the other issues I've had with components bought from Amazon. Read my dead motherboard thread in the motherboard section before you judge me Mr high and mighty. If anything this is something good that has come out of the bad I've experienced. For the 10 days I've been able to use it, its' been nothing but hot. I put a side fan on it. Still hot and throttles. Because I've only used it for 10 days, and was only 2 days past return, Amazon made the exception. Especially since I bought it from Amazon warehouse and it was returned prior, they didn't hesitate They saw my history with the motherboard and agreed with me.

If you have a problem, take it up with Amazon, the one who approved it. By definition, you're being a hater.

Can't wait to enjoy my new 960, thank you! (BACK ON TOPIC!)
